and I am African American.

I saw the video and in my experience that is not the way that it is done.

First of all,you are usually mad.
You don't have a smile on your face.
And your finger makes a motion that indicates " Take THAT!"
And your face gets tight.

He was doing a cute version of "the Brush off" which was jovial.
He was not angry, he was getting the audience in a playful but meaningful mood.

Then he went to brush off his leg and the audience was enjoying that too!

He had no reason to give HC the finger, it would not jive with the rest of his actions.

When you are from the South Side of Chicago,the finger is a language.

He was not speaking that language at that time.

Also,it is not given in a big audience where there could be those that don't understand what you are doing.

Now when he finished the debate and he was relaxing with his friend back at the hotel,he would probably say " Man! I wanted to say Take THIS George and John you dirty low down dogs!"

"Take THIS!" and they would slap hands and throw their heads back and start laughing until they were rolling on the floor laughing.
