Clinton dismisses Obama’s critique of this week’s debate questions.
http://thepage.time.com/2008/04/18/clinton-%e2%80%9cwhen-the-going-gets-tough-you-can%e2%80%99t-run-away%e2%80%9d/

Q: Obviously, the war in Iraq is one of so many issues that you dealt with at the debate Wednesday night. I want to get your thoughts on this, we talked about it yesterday, its on the front of so many papers, I’ll show you this one, it’s the Philadelphia Tribune, it says ‘viewers upset with ABC debate’, it’s got Barack Obama’s picture right there on the right. Yesterday he was saying for 40 minutes or so it was all about who said what and who did this, and you really didn’t get to the key issues until almost the second hour of the debate. What did you think about the debate on Wednesday night?

HRC: We were both asked some pretty tough questions and that’s part of what happens in a debate and in a campaign. And I know he spent all day yesterday complaining about the hard questions he was asked. Being asked tough questions in a debate is nothing like the pressures you face inside the White House. In fact, when the going gets tough, you just can’t walk away because we’re going to have some very tough decisions that we have to make. I think we need a president who can take whatever comes your way. You have to stand strong; you have to fight for the American people – because it will not be easy to stand up against the special interests.

Q: So you were fine with the debate, did you see any problem with it?

HRC: Well, can I say that I’ve been through, what 23 of these debates? And as I recall, I was asked some pretty tough questions in nearly every one of them. That goes with the territory, having been inside the White House, I know the pressures inside the White House, I know how hard it is every single day. When the going gets tough you can’t run away. And it’s going to be tough going to deal with these hard problems; getting out of Iraq in the right way, turning the economy around, getting universal health care, ending our dependence on foreign oil. The special interests are going to be a lot tougher than 90 minutes of questions from two journalists and we need a president who is going to be up there fighting everyday for the American people and not complain about how much pressure there is, and how hard the questions are.

Hillary just slid seamlessly into what seemed to be her prepared remarks.
She knew what was coming.
And, btw, wasn't it Hillary who was begging for that debate to happen?

45. that's really pathetic of you to suggest that.
Is your candidate really that weak that he needs this paternal defense? I thought he did fine, but from the tone of his supporters and from the tone of the campaign, it seems like y'all think he screwed up. I agree that Hillary Clinton was well-prepared, but the suggestion that she cheated is the dirtiest of politics, presented without any proof at all. All of this griping seems strange coming from folks who want to convince us that their man's candidacy is ahead and inevitable.

even IF she wins, she still won't get the delegates, the popular support, or the delegate/superdelegate support she's so pathetically begging for. She's been bleeding superdelegates for some time now. They aren't going to back a back-stabbing LOSER who said McCain was a better candidate than the Democrat, the mean-spirited LIAR who's running a Karl Rove-type campaign. So sorry, boo hoo. 31. OMG!! She has LOST the entire point of the argument BO was making
It was NOT the so-called tough questions he was 'bitter' about. It was the pointless nature of the questions. In previous presidential elections this might have been ok, but this time there are substantial issues for which we MUST know what the candidates think about them. THATS WHAT IS IMPORTANT, not flag-pins, boznia-gate, bitter-gate or all other gates.

32. Obama folded like a lawn chair!!
In how many debates was Hillary pummeled by the moderators and the other candidates? In plenty of them if I recall correctly.

The questions may not have been substantive, but they go into the character of both candidates and into people's perceptions of them. The president needs to be the Number One cheerleader of the nation and some people (rightly or not) question Obama's patriotism.

I have knocked on enough doors in PA to not be surprised by anyone's comments: he's a Muslim, he's a racist, how could he stay for 20 years in that church, and last weekend "bittergate" was the gift that kept on giving. Oh, and the many unsolicited comments from people who said that if it's not Hillary, then for them it's McCain. We'll see what I hear this weekend.

77. Nope, except to say that he's not a Muslim.
We just let them talk and ask for their support, though we never speak against him. Some people just wanted to let us know how angry they are about whatever issues concern them. Last weekend it was all about the "bitter" remarks. People were walking into our campaign offices in Reading and Allentown just to vent their anger.

Who knows what the issue will be this weekend. I'll be traveling there tonight after work.

48. She thinks elementary school yard tattle telling is her key to winning. The people
have given her the bird on that plan.

49. man, can she spin stuff.
You mean in the White House he's going to get bombarded with questions about Rev. Wright, Ayers, Rezco, etc? I don't think the really tough issues (Iraq, the economy, etc.) are the problem, Hillary. It's the STUPID questions that distract and detract from the real issues! That debate was a farce and 75% of the country could see that.

56. They weren't "tough' questions.
They were stupid questions.

Kind of like the "When did you stop beating your wife?" variety of stupid questions.

Obama gets criticized for appearing frustrated or giving less than inspirational answers but how can anyone be expected to take these really dumb questions and do much of anything with them?

Honestly, how would ano of us answer the question "Are you more patriotic then Rev. Wright" or whatever that dumb question was. OR the flag pin nonsense. Maybe Obama could have pointed to Hillary's lack of flag pin and retort "Why don't you ask her?"

58. "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGeQ6dxGMFA

It is often a measure of Hillary Clinton's discomfort when she smiles broadly and lets loose with her deep, often-mocked belly laugh. So it was at a press conference at the Pittsburgh airport this afternoon, when a CNN producer asked Clinton whether the fact that her husband had earned $800,000 for speeches designed to boost the free trade deal with Colombia - a deal that she opposes (she even demoted her controversial chief strategist Mark Penn for advocating same) constituted a conflict of interest? After all, those earnings may have comprised a part of the $5 million Clinton loaned her campaign in February. First, Clinton giggled. Then she laughed. She waved her arms in the air. Then came an "Oh my." More laughter. A few eye rolls and head shakes. Then this: "I mean, how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"

Is this how Hillary would answer questions in a debate with McCain?

You Hillary worshippers are morons. You're mocking Obama because he "couldn't answer the tough questions"--what "tough questions" were those? Why he doesn't wear a flag pin?

If you had half a brain, you'd be dangerous. Why doesn't Hillary, the phony lying ASSHOLE, answer the SIMPLE question of whether she's (essentially) double dipping with Uribe, the fascist chainsaw murderer of Colombia?

Talk about "folding up like a lawn chair"--all she can do is cackle like a damn bag lady off her meds at a question like that. Your stupid "candidate" is more than toast, she's totally finished her political life. Why don't you go off the cliff with her?

60. I watch everything I can find re Obama
and I never saw him "crying like a baby." However, I have seen Slick Willy whining about hillary's treatment during debates and her "crying like a baby" after debates re her treatment. She gets this really ugly look on her face when she's upset - never saw that the other night so I believe she was in cohoots with lil Georgie Stephapoopoo about what questions were going to be asked. REgardless, she wasn't asked nearly as many STOOOOOPID questions as O was - they let her off on her lies about Bosnia - she said "a couple of times" -I know I heard her lie about sniper fire on at least 4 occasions! Maybe she can't stand the pressure - it does something to her memory!

63. She's so full of herself.
I'm really growing to detest each word that comes out of her mouth. She has been on record for: weeping; scolding; screaming; defensive (at other debates, no less); whining; and the list goes on and on. Everytime she tries to open her mouth to insult Obama--trying to make herself look good--turns more and more people off.

75. I prefer imaginary "crying and whining" to real-life defensive cackling
like a blubbering idiot and, instead of answering, asking "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"

keep repeating that outlandish bullshit about "cry and whine"--or provide a link.
Here's a link to the way a REAL president answers the tough questions:

She might as well have said "When the going gets tough you can’t blame ABC."

82. It is truly a shame
that Hillary is unwilling to help raise the level of discussion in this country. This is gutter politics & it will be the ruin of our great nation. Some of us see that & some of us don't care to. I like how people scream about rovian politics, but cheer Hillary when she uses them.

You want to know who wears a lapel pin really well? Dubya & look where that has gotten us. It is time to raise the bar on the kind of questions we expect our candidates to answer. This is nothing but a distraction. It has distracted Hillary from reading the NIE on Iran & no one seems to care. We'll get what we deserve, but don't say some of us didn't try to change the tone of politics.
