Pissing off an organization that brings in tens of millions of dollars (someone on MSNBC said they spent HUNDREDS of millions in 2004?), and has a massive GOTV effort, plus a membership of over 3 million active supporters....

Now imagine the general election without that support, and throw in Hillary's high negatives.
