I caught Real Time for the first time this season, last night. The common knowledge is that in Pennsylvania you have Pittsburgh and Philly, with Alabama in between. But, not so fast says Jeremy Scahil.
He went out on the ground, with the people. Farmers, small towners, gun people, and bikers, to check out their presidential preferences. And it don't look good for Hillary. The overwhelming preference is Barack Obama, even over John McCain.
I'm seeing the same thing down here in Florida. I talk almost daily with Suzan Franks, a candidate for Florida's 3rd Senate District. She has spent the last several months going door to door gathering signatures to get on the ballot. Normally, you'd take your voter file, and just go to Democratic households, and not waste your time on Republicans. This year is different. She decided to hit every house and talk to people.
The district is pretty solidly Republican. It stretches from Citrus County in the south, and goes north to the Georgia border, taking in parts of Tallahassee, on down past Ocala in the south.
She says that everywhere she goes people are talking about voting for Obama in November. They're fed up with Republicans in general and they don't like Hillary. We're talking about Republicans, Independents, and Democrats. And Suzan, by the way, leans toward Hillary. We both supported Edwards in the primary.
What I'm saying is, if this district goes for Obama in November, there ain't no way in hell that Florida is going red. Get a clue, Bill Nelson, Karen Thurman, and the rest of you DLC idiots who try to spin Florida as a disaster waiting to happen. We're done with disasters.
