2. There's an error in that poll. It includes the 27 states that don't count.

6. Why does this poll mean anything?
We only have 10 primaries left and this is a national poll of Democrats. Most Dems have already voted.

I just don't get the relevance at this point in the season.

13. Because who is most electable matters to the SD's
and will influence delegates if this goes to convention and there is no nominee after the first ballot.

I know that a lot of people don't want to see it, but this thing is just not over.

14. But this doesn't address that question...
If it was a nationwide poll of all voters, it would have value. It isn't. It's a poll of Democrats...most of whom have already voted.

We have over 80% of the answer as to whom Democratic voters prefer...it's called the results of the primary process. How does a poll of Democrats, when we've already "polled" most of them in the most effective way (actual votes) mean anything?

15. Some people voted when there were more than two candidates in the race.
Some people voted before all these mini-scandals and one-on-one debates. Some people, like myself, did not vote because they support both candidates. Many people still consider themselves undecided. Some states had caucuses which may not truly demonstrate popular vote. Two states have been completely disenfranchised. There are questions about cross-over voters and whether they are sincere or not.

I disagree that we have over 80% of the answer. If nothing else, the polls give us a picture of where people stand now. In addition, there is a lot of debate about what the actual popular vote numbers are, but we can probably agree that it is very close. This particular poll is of Democratic and LIKELY Democratic voters. I think we ignore them at our peril. I want the candidate who will win in the end.

16. But there's no framework in which the question is currently valid
It's not a primary question, because it has input from a lot of people from states that have already been counted.

It's not a general question, because it doesn't address whether the voter will vote for the Dem candidate regardless of nominee, stay home if their preferred candidate isn't the nominee, or vote for McCain if their preferred candidate isn't the nominee.

I don't see this as really being relevant to anything at all...

17. I agree with you about the validity.
It doesn't say much at all. Just a weather vane and interesting to watch (at least for me). You make an excellent point about the framing.

11. Which proves that being vicious and cruel works
Good for her ... how good of her to plunge us down into the muck away from all that scary hope and change. And all her "supporters" are helping her do it.

Actually, this is a one point tick and isn't even statistically relevant.

Playing off of peoples' (often unconscious but deep seeded) prejudices, is NOT what we AMERICANS are all about.

America's basic principles outlined in the Constitution are CLEAR.

Every man (and woman dammit!) is created equal.

Although the Founding Fathers were strapped with their own prejudices (against women and people of color), their IDEALS were SOUND and TRUE.
