HRC's PA director lowering expectations ("This is not going to be a blowout race,")

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CAMPAIGN_RDP?SITE=TXDAM&TEMPLATE=HOME.html&SECTION=HOME

Party officials known as superdelegates continued drifting toward Obama in that interim, increasing his edge in the race despite his series of gaffes, and that trend is bound to accelerate if he performs strongly Tuesday. Clinton is hoping a decisive win will put a stop to that. Polls have suggested she has a consistent if shrinking lead.

Clinton planned five events across the state as both campaigns prepared for the sprint to Tuesday. Nick Clemons, her Pennsylvania director, said the campaign would deploy 5,000 volunteers to place phone calls and knock on doors. "This is not going to be a blowout race," he said. "We're looking for a win, and we think it's going to be a close race."

Former President Clinton told a small crowd in Wilkes-Barre that his wife can win if her supporters come out. The outcome "is basically going to be determined by whether you want it bad enough," he said. "You give her a big vote out of here, she'll wake up in a different world, and so will you, and America will have a better tomorrow."

1. Their internals probably show a 5-9 point win.
That's why they've been going on the offense this last week. They desperately want and NEED a blowout.

8. Looks like it
BTW, keep in mind that it was the HRC campaign that had to HIRE a company to get workers to hold HRC signs at Dallas and Plano intersections during the TX primary.
There was a DUer who posted a local article back then about it. A driver rolled down his window and asked the sign holder if he was for HRC and the guy responded "getting paid".

At the Plano intersection it was just a mile or so away from HRC's pitstop at La Madaline's cafe.

After hearing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama speak to area volunteers last night, students involved in his campaign say they are, to use a popular Obama slogan, "fired up, ready to go."

The event, held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, had several thousand Philadelphia volunteers for the campaign in attendance.

Penn attendees were chosen through a lottery last night for students who had signed up for at least four hours of volunteer work each week until the election.

Students said the event gave them energy to continue their campaign efforts in the three weeks remaining before Pennsylvania's April 22 primary.

9. She's screwed
5000 volunteers...does not an effective GOTV effort make.

We probably have twice that many descending into the state these four days from out of PA.

10. If only we could get her to leave the **delusional world**...
where she thinks she stands a snowball's chance in hell of winning....

Reality is not a bad place to be, Hillary, just visit it for a while. Please. Visit it, drop OUT of this race, then you can go back to your delusional world.

My guess is Clinton by double digits.

7. yep. I'm an Obama supporter. She'll win by 12 or 14.
It's the number of undecideds in each PA poll and they usually go her way.

Now how the hell is a group of only 5,000 people going to hit 100,000 doors AND make a million calls?? They plan on making calls from their cell phones in between doors?

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/breaking/news_breaking/20080419_WEST_LAWN__Pa__-_Sen__Hillary_Rodham_Clinton_returned_to_NO_HEAD_SPECIFIED.html

Meanwhile, the Clinton campaign apparatus was turning its attention to get-out-the-vote efforts this weekend, while trying to lower expectations ahead of Tuesday's vote. When the campaign for Pennsylvania began seven weeks ago, Clinton was ahead by double digits.

"We have Sen. Obama's campaign outspending us 3 to 1, so we're going into this weekend back on our heels," said Nick Clemons, senior adviser to Clinton. "This is not going to be a blowout race."

The campaign, with 5,000 volunteers, plans to knock on 100,000 doors this weekend and make one million calls to Pennsylvania Democrats before the polls open, Clemons said.

23. Actually more like 8-10%
Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 06:21 PM by Jake3463
Depending on what paper you read and what the State's official tally is that day.

Last confirmed number of new democrats was 336,000 I read somewhere this morning.
So that's 8.4% of the electorate give or take. This is also 8.4% that are more likely to vote.

5% of the electorate is probably dead or moved to another state. They don't do the greatest job cleaning up these rolls.

They aren't polled because the state takes time in getting updated registered voter list to the polling firms and parties.

Also, It's 3% of the PA population. Mighty expensive to try to find that 3% with random calls.
