Hillary Backers: Tapped out and Tired (NYT article)

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/20/us/politics/20donor.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

Forget the polls... forget everything else. Follow the money.

Hillary's getting very close to not being able to AFFORD to continue. Even if she gains momentum, she's reached a point where most of her donors have already hit the $2300 maximum and can't give any more.

Her only hope is to bring in more new donors... and seriously.... is there any possible Hillary donor that HASN'T been tapped for a donation yet?

The spigot is turning closed for her.

It will all be over soon.

1. If PA isn't the blow-out she needs it will also put pressure on her to get out of the race
and will be increasingly difficult to raise money.

3. Even if it IS the blowout she needs, it's too late.
The well is dry. It's when the coffers dry up that campaigns end.

4. Doesn't matter.. once you hit $2300, you're done. More than half of Hillary donors are maxed out..

So appeals for new donations are not effective.

Where does it come from? She has 1/10th of the donor base of Obama... and anybody who is so inclined to donate to Hillary has already done so.

Short of financing the rest of her campaign on her own dime, she's going to be out of funds soon.

In contrast, Obama's average donor has given less than $300..... he has an bottomless ATM machine that he can tap at any time, without much effort.

Hillary won't be able to afford to make it to Puerto Rico. Her campaign will be bankrupt... (of course, it is already bankrupt of ideas)...

8. Normally, Bill Could Get A Few Million From An Uzbeki "Businessman"
Amd loan it to their campaign - but I suspect that the world's shady "businessmen" don't have use for the Clintons now that they've been eliminated.

25. There are many people who donate to political campaigns who can't afford
$2,300.00 all at once so they send what they can, when they can. That's how I do it. I've made 5 contributions to Hillary's campaign so far and will continue as long as she continues to run.

Yet, they say the primary is over.

all those women who make 77 cents on the dollar are tapped out. More accurate...all those over 50 year old women have been fired and can't find jobs...why? Not cute enough or obedient enough, right?

Hope you are all very, very happy about that.

16. It's a miracle
she's lasted this long. Maybe this will be the final straw that gets her to quit the campaign and let Obama work on McSame. It's really just silly for her to continue at this point when there's hardly any kind of math, even financial math, that will see her to victory.

Facing Obama Fund-Raising Juggernaut, Clinton Seeks New Sources of Cash
By MICHAEL LUO

Senator Barack Obama is swamping Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton with television advertising in their prolonged battle for the Democratic nomination, putting fresh pressure on Mrs. Clinton’s fund-raising machine to find new sources of money to help her keep pace.

But her big-dollar fund-raising apparatus that was once the envy of the political world is encountering obstacles as many of those in its regular networks of donors have reached the maximum on their personal contributions or grown tired of the relentless press for donations.

The campaign is actively hunting for new wellsprings of cash, while tapped-out donors who want to give more are contemplating financing independent efforts on her behalf that are not bound by contribution limits. So far, however, the independent efforts have been halting at best.

The scramble for fresh resources comes as the money gap between the two candidates is growing. In March, largely because of a continued advantage in small donations given over the Internet, Mr. Obama was able to raise twice what Mrs. Clinton brought in, collecting $40 million compared with her $20 million. He has been spending it freely in Pennsylvania, hoping to stymie Mrs. Clinton in a contest that could determine whether she stays in the race.

33. What has been surprising is that Hillary has been running
at least 10 times as many commercials as Obama this past week here in southwestern PA. Before that Obama had a slight edge over her. Hillary is projected to do well here, but I was surprised to see such an imbalance in ads.

But the absolute worst thing happening here is that McCain has been running commercials for the past 3 days now. Oh my are they a pile of lies.

Via her mean-spirited diss of MoveOn.

At least Obama knows how to work the grassroots supporters, ala Howard Dean.

Hillary should have known that she couldn't count on her cash cows to do everything.
