How will Obama respond to questions about his dumb mistakes?
Obama has made some dumb mistakes. My thinking is that he never expected to win the nomination this time around so felt he had time to insulate his life a little better. I thought his biggest mistake in the last debate was that his answers to questions about the flag pin, Ayers, and Wright were way too long. He needs good, pithy answers to questions (in debates or press conference) that bring up the crap, and like it or not this crap will be brought up. Do you agree? Do you have some suggestions?

1. The flag pin issue was just stupid. Why allow a controversy to form over a distraction? Obama created this distraction, and it was stupid and unnecessary from the start.

Maybe he should say, "I didn't fully understand the issue, but now that I do, I am wearing a flag pin out of respect to our veterans and soldiers."

2. Staying with his Church was stupid. Had he left it a year or two ago, no one would have thought a thing of it. On its "about page"

"We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community."

You know those beautiful words are going to be spun to suggest, not only was Obama taught in a Madrassa, not only is he a Muslim, but he also belongs to a black nationalist church.

Maybe he should say, "The church was nearby and we had many good friends in it, some of whom we disagreed with politically. If you want more information, visit my web site. Next question."

3. Rezko. Even though Obama has been transparent and there's no evidence of a smoking gun, you know he's going to be hit hard here. They are going to do all they can to tarnish his clean cut, honest image, and Rezko is the best thing they have.

Maybe he should say, "He was my neighbor and agreed to sell me a little land for twice the assessed value. Otherwise, I dealt with him on a legitimate project. If you want more information, visit my web site. Next question."

4. Ayers. Ayers is going to be portrayed as some sort of monster, and they are going to use him to add to hint that Obama may be anti-American.

Maybe he should say, "I know many people with what many of us would consider extreme views. Some are left and some are right. Some are liberal and some are conservative. To be a good president, it is important to know how people think. If you want more information, visit my web site. Next question."

At any rate, the most important thing for Obama is not to start explaining his relationships. No one can explain a relationship.

1. The point is----
we need to have the media start asking McCain those same type of questions.

2. As far as dumb distractions go
I think Obama is in a better spot than Hillary.

I was alive in the 90's. I remember Bill's presidency. So does the RW and all the shit they said than is going to be repeated.

8. Hillary wants to wrap herself in the mantle of anything good in her husband's presidency,
and all of his experiences were hers also, but the RW will tag her with all the bad too. Particularly Bill lying to our faces while he wagged his finger at us to emphasize the honesty of his words. (He's still good at wagging his finger and lecturing us like we are little children.) I think that when voters in this country consider Senator Clinton they think, "Been there, done that, not again".

12. Farrakhan, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Rezko
with Obama in the Whitehouse with their agenda?

Yes, I would rather have Bill back with nothing to do!

And I was never a Clinton fan!

13. Point by Point
Farrakhan - Other than his pastor saying nice things about the man Obama has never met him 3rd degree association. I think if you keep going you can connect Obama to Kevin Bacon.

Bill Ayers - Obama knows him. Who pardoned weather underground members in 2000?

Wright - He's a freaking retired pastor. My pastor doesn't direct me in what I do at work.

Rezko - Do you really want to go down the sketchy donor thing. You found one Clinton has 30.

23. Major right wing talking point. "Bill in the White House with nothing to do."
Bill will likely be an ambassador of goodwill, traveling to other countries. Unlike the United States, other countries don't turn venomously on formerly appreciated politicians simply because there is a rival.

33. Nope
Just someone who spent more than his fair share of time getting into fist fights and shouting matches supporting Bill in the 90s - frankly after seeing his antics during this campaign I wish I would have saved myself the bruises and scorn.

Looks like it wasn't worth it after all.

4. You think "he never expected to win the nomination this time around"? So how
do you explain his remarkably well run campaign? If you're correct, can you imagine how much better he'd do if he really expected to win?

Your OP is mistaken right from there and gets worse.

19. As I said to someone else
Early on, he would warn supporters not to get their hopes up, and seemed to recognize that his candidacy was something of a long shot. If you supported him from the beginning, you would know that.

And I don't get the value of denial. This shit about Obama is out there, and he needs to deal with it, because the swiftboaters out there are certainly going to deal with it. They turned Kerry from a war hero to a traitor and liar with less ammunition than they have against Obama.

21. Yes, he would warn supporters because the history of black men gaining
the nomination is so good. Yet, he won Iowa! And that shows what an amazing campaign he's built. If he did not work toward winning the nomination, he'd probably have come in third in Iowa.

And, FYI, other than working in the Draft Gore movement, I supported Obama from the beginning.

6. He should say, but won't -
"You're fucking morons to even be asking such stupid questions while the country is at war, the economy is tanking and many average people have no jobs or healthcare." By the way, ever notice old man McBush doesn't wear the requisite Made In China American flag pin? Why does he hate America?

7. "he never expected to win the nomination this time around"...
He was very up front when he announced that this was a one-time thing. He and Michelle had decided they would run once, but not run again if he lost.

... he would tell supporters to not get their hopes too high. I know he said he would only run once, but even if he loses, I am sure he'll run again.

9. I guess you missed the first 45 minutes of the debate.
George and Charlie focused on nothing but stupid for that entire time. You missed that? You didn't read about it here?

Or are you simply flinging another handful of dung against the wall?

Obama didn't handle those questions particularly effectively in that debate. He didn't lay those questions to rest.

22. No one is making your point because you have no point.
The media needs this. Obama has completely dismantled the Clinton machine. It is still limping forward only because it's the only show in town and the media needs this. They want it.

You had three non-flag-pin-wearing people pounding Obama for not wearing a pin? Oh, yeah, that is so critical to anything.

Keep it up. You'll be crying yourself to sleep by mid-May.

It's the McCain campaign that will attack him with these kind of questions. If Obama doesn't have good soundbite answers, it will be a problem for him with indepedents and other undecided voters.

other than say the people who have a problem with all those things have a problem themselves and they are idiots for perpetuating these problems. Its never HIS fault. HE never makes a mistake. HE never has an error in judgment.
