Obama: McCain would be better than Bush
Liz Sidoti / Associated Press
READING, Pa . -- Democrat Barack Obama, who often argues that John McCain is the same as President Bush, said Sunday that the Republican presidential candidate would be better for the country than Bush has been.

"You have a real choice in this election. Either Democrat would be better than John McCain," Obama said to cheers from a rowdy crowd in central Pennsylvania. Then he said: "And all three of us would be better than George Bush."

"But what you have to ask yourself is who has the chance to actually really change things in a fundamental way so that 10 years from now or 20 years from now you can look back and you can say, boy, we really moved in a new direction and we put the country on a better path," Obama added as he wrapped up an event at Reading High School.

18. No she didn't
she said he had more experience and would run on that.

She has also said that policy wise, McCain would be a big mistake and that both her and Obama would be far better choices than McCain.

Let's keep it honest shall we?

26. QUOTE
Which only leaves this wondrous remark from Clinton herself, proving that if she loses the nomination, nothing she says in Obama’s favor thenceforth will seem the least bit persuasive or plausible:

“I think that since we now know Sen. (John) McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it’s imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold,” the New York senator told reporters crowded into an infant’s bedroom-sized hotel conference room in Washington.

“I believe that I’ve done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you’ll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy,”
she said.

She went on to call McCain a friend and praise and his service to his country; at least she knows how to wage someone’s campaign effectively.

He has the experience to be a GOP President.

Show me where Clinton said that a GOP President would be better than Obama.

29. I'll allow readers to make the judgement call on the meaning of her words.
You and I have biased interpretations. She wasn't talking experience. She said McCain had past some unspoken test of qualification for President and she didn't think Obama had. It's pretty clear if you are not a Hillary supporter what she meant. I think most non-Hillary supporters would agree with my interpretation. The fact is, there is only one test of qualification to be President: the voters. And Obama has done far better than Clinton on that.

Obama shouldn't concede a single vote in advance. Even a backhanded endorsement of McCain is wrong and foolish. I am an Obama supporter, but I think McCain actually is a LOT worse than Bush (e.g. on Iran and Iraq, for starters).

7. Maybe. 61 percent of historians say Bush is worst ever - already. Still. . .
Bush hasn't thrown around nukes (yet - he may still do so). But McCain seems just the type to drop a nuke or two or three.

Still, tough to catch Bush. I hope to live another 30 years, and expect to die with George W. Bush still at the bottom.

I hope.

22. Bullshit. She simply highlighted the experience deficit between McCain and Obama. That is ONE issue.
She CONSISTENTLY says that overall, Obama would be MUCH better than McCain.

But now Obama has said that overall, McCain would be better than Bush. This was something that was completely rediculous to most Obama supporters here before Obama said it (hence "McSame", etc.) Only now, after Obama said otherwise, are people trying to defend him. You just can't look past your blinders to see that.

19. Because Bush is not running. McCain is. Likening McCain to Bush was one of his best arguments.
Hell, even most Obama supporters here agreed with that before he did a complete 180. They called him McSame. But now, because they have to revere Obama, they have to agree with him and say that McCain is better than Bush. Because Obama can never be wrong.

15. That's just great. Good going, Obama.
One of his best arguments was that McCain is running for Bush's third term. He should be saying that as much as he can. His policies are the same, and he is more pro-war than even Bush. That's a concerete statement, and Americans can relate McCain to Bush and realize in concrete terms why that is bad.

But noooooooo. He has to concede that great argument, and change the subject to "change things in a fundamental way so that 10 years from now or 20 year sfrom now, ... blah blah blah, we moved in a new direction, better path, blah blah blah."

UGH. Some people may care more about changing the paradigm of politics in America than actual concrete proposals, but NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE HIM WIN. He needs to stop talking philosophy, and start talking about exactly what he will do, and what McCain won't do. And the best way to do that was to liken McCain to Bush. But now he threw away his best argument.

Why does he always say stupid things.

28. It was an obvious error... exactly from the same article:
Earlier, Obama renewed his criticism that McCain offers the same "failed" policies of the Bush administration on everything from Iraq to the economy.

"We cannot afford a third George Bush term and that's what John McCain is offering — a third Bush term," Obama said, repeating a line he's said at virtually every campaign stop since McCain wrapped up the GOP nomination last month.

Being better than Bush isn't much. I think that Obama is about to reframe the argument against McCain. I think he is right, because there are too many Folks that already think that McCain couldn't be as bad as Bush. Going that route throughout the GE is not going to ring true. I think there is something else about to show up.

I'm chilling, and I'm gonna Watch and Listen.
