Camille Paglia: Why Women Shouldn't Vote For Hillary Clinton
If the Clintonistas can quote RW talking points to advance their agenda here and get away with it, then I'm going to do it. Especially when there's some truth to it. Per The Telegraph (UK):

Whatever her official feminist credo, Hillary's public career has glaringly been a subset to her husband's success. Despite her reputation for brilliance, she failed the Washington, DC bar exam. Thus her migration to Little Rock was not simply a selfless drama for love; she was fleeing the capital where she had hoped to make her mark.

In Little Rock, every role that Hillary played was obtained via her husband's influence - from her position at the Rose Law Firm to her seat on the board of Wal-Mart to her advocacy for public education reform. In a pattern that would continue after Bill became president, Hillary would draw attention by expressing public "concern" for a problem, without ever being able to organise a programme for reform.

Hillary has always been a policy wonk, a functionary attuned to bureaucratic process, but she has never shown executive ability, which makes her quest for the presidency problematic. Hillary's disastrous botching of national healthcare reform in 1993 (a project to which her husband rashly appointed her) will live in infamy. Obama may also have limited executive experience, but he has no comparable stain on his record.

The argument, therefore, that Hillary's candidacy marks the zenith of modern feminism is specious. Feminism is not well served by her surrogates' constant tactic of attributing all opposition to her as a function of entrenched sexism. Well into her second term as a US Senator, Hillary lacks a single example of major legislative achievement. Her career has consisted of fundraising, meet-and-greets and speeches around the world expressing support for women's rights.

Flame away, peeps.

10. She poses some interesting questions
Hillary failed the bar exam and fled Washington D.C.? Did she earn her positions in the Rose law firm or the board of Wal-Mart on her own merit? What major policy has she created and passed in her two terms in the Senate?

Hey, we're just vetting your candidate here. Feel free to provide evidence refuting these questions. :-)

22. Hillary was in Love with Bill Clinton..and wanted to follow him to AK..
that was her Primary reason for passing up the exam.. she had plenty of time to take it again. Who cares about the Rose Law Firm or Wall-Mart. What has that got to do with anything? My candidate HAS been vetted by 2 Republican prosecutors for 8 yrs. If you want to know her accomplishments... go to her site: http://clinton.senate.gov/

35. Muscled yet?
Or are you still looking for answers to this fact:

Hillary Clinton accepted money and a plaque from Abdurahman Alamoudi for a fundraiser eight years ago. They raised $50,000 for HRC. Alamoudi was later charged with laundering money from Libya and providing money to Al Qaeda, Hamas, and other terrorist organizations.

Your silence is laughable. Vet away.

96. Since you asked for proof, here it is
The previous link was for Abdurahman M. Alamoudi. Here's the return of the money and plaque:

Hillary Rodham Clinton said yesterday that she would return $50,000 in political contributions received at a fund-raising event sponsored by a Muslim organization based in California.

Mrs. Clinton said she was offended by remarks attributed to members of the organization, the American Muslim Alliance. The group's president has been quoted as defending a United Nations resolution that he said allowed for the use of armed force by Palestinians against Israel, while other members have been accused of making anti-Semitic remarks.

Mrs. Clinton's decision to return the money, as well as $1,000 from an official of another American Muslim group, the American Muslim Council, puzzled leaders of both Muslim organizations. The groups acknowledge that they have some members with extreme views on Israel, but say that they are mainstream and oppose terrorism. Officials in the groups yesterday took issue with the characterizations of the remarks.

<snip>

Mrs. Clinton also said she would return $1,000 to Mr. Alamoudi of the American Muslim Council. She said she did not know that the fund-raising event, which was held in Boston in June, had been sponsored by the American Muslim Alliance even though she was photographed at the event accepting a plaque from the chairman of the group's Massachusetts chapter.

And here's where she sent Alamoudi's group a thank you letter for the $50,000 campaign donation:

Mr. Lazio unleashed a tough advertisement linking Mrs. Clinton to groups whose leaders have expressed support for the use of violence against Israel. Mrs. Clinton said the ad was ''disgraceful and beneath him and it should be beneath anyone'' who wants to succeed Daniel Patrick Moynihan in Washington.

At the same time, Mrs. Clinton acknowledged that a White House office had written what she called a form letter, on official stationery, to the American Muslim Alliance, thanking the organization for a plaque it awarded her at a fund-raising reception in Massachusetts, where she raised $50,000 last June. After the donations were disclosed last week, Mrs. Clinton returned the money, saying that she had not been aware that the alliance, some of whose members have been quoted as defending the use of violence against Israel, had been an event sponsor.

Mr. Lazio's aides asserted that the letter was proof that Mrs. Clinton had misled New Yorkers about her knowledge of the event.

There's your proof Hillary once accepted money from a group that supports Al-Qaeda and Hamas. Any questions? Refer to the above articles, since you now know this is not a smear but proper vetting of your candidate. A simple Google search will probably turn up additional sources.

Have a nice day. :hi:

114. I'm shocked
Finally, someone who still has a modicum of common sense on this board! I was beginning to think I was all alone here. You are so right. I have never seen, nor ever thought that I would see, the members of this website slandering the Clintons with impunity just because Barack Obama has come along and happens to be a good person, and oh yeah, he's a minority. But Hillary Clinton is also a minority, not to mention also a good person. I guess most of the people on this board have forgotten that women are considered a member of the minority class. So, we have two minorities vying for the Democratic nomination for president, one who is new to Washington and lacking the years of public service experience we generally see in presidential candidates, and the other who has been in public service for 35 years, and has until now always had the support of just about anyone who calls themselves a Democrat. What is happening here and elsewhere with people who have always been in the Clinton's corner? The way former supporters have turned on them sickens me. It's beyond appalling. Of course, these Obama people are very shrill in their denials that it has anything whatsoever to do with one being a woman and the other a man, but in my mind, it cannot be anything else. No one ever had a problem with her character or integrity before, what is different now? It isn't the first time she's run for office, it's the third, as she is in her second term as a U.S. Senator, but all of a sudden she's nothing but a liar and a bitch and a secret right wing shill. Obama hasn't even finished his first term as a senator, yet is considered fit to become president, not to mention practically being canonized, at a time in our history where just about everything is going wrong. Obama people need to admit they are scared shitless of having a female president. We know it, you know, be honest and say it, lying about it only makes you look more disgusting (yes, women can be misogynists just like men; it's called self-loathing, something I brought up in another post). If Barack Obama really loves this country, he will defer to Hillary Clinton, step aside in his bid for the top spot, and she will ask him to be her running mate. That is how we will save our country and win back the White House. Otherwise, I don't see things getting better, only worse, and it makes me afraid for the future of this nation and my family.

You see if they simply say that they are conservative Republicans no one will attention.

The “Arkansas Project,” which was privately funded by billionaire Pittsburgh Tribune-Review publisher Richard Mellon Scaife, angered partisan Democrats by probing into such Clinton classics as the death of Vince Foster, Whitewater, and Troopergate.

20. Given where she was in 1973, she would have been some kind of player anyway
The failing the bar exam thing is a red herring. People fail it if they're busy with some serious work and don't have time to study for it. But she had, for her age, a very influential position even in 1973. They were a power couple in Arkansas. Of course everything would have been different if she had been on her own, or had married a doctor or something. But I suspect she'd have become a judge or undersecretary of health education & welfare, something like that. Certainly a top Yale law school grad in Arkansas - not the first choice of elite lawyers back then, I'll bet - would have been attractive to Rose law firm (although she wouldn't have gone to Arkansas on her own). She's smart, driven, ambitious and hard working. People like that do work their way near the top. That said, I seriously doubt she would have been a senator (or presidential candidate) on her own - Bill has the campaign instincts in that couple.

27. I suppose there is no way of knowing since she did marry Bill. It just seems
like pretty much everything she's done since has been shaped or influenced by the marriage.
Like you said, it's hard to imagine she would have moved to Arkansas if it weren't for him.
Being a "power couple" in Arkansas is probably a lot easier than in bigger states. Big fish in a
small pond.

120. I have. She would never have moved to Arkansas if it weren't for him.
That was a pretty dramatic shift in paradigm. She chose early on to accept his philandering
in order to stay in a relationship she decided would benefit her more than choosing to leave
him and try to manage that on her own. I don't doubt that HE would not be where he is today
without her, that is the nature of their type of relationship. I know, I've been in one. She made a
different choice than I did. While I respect her choice, her position in life is inextricably tied to him
and his to her.

I don't think Sen Clinton would make the best president, however; if Camille Paglia hates her, there must be something good about Hillary I'm missing.

Rush was giggling and quoting Paglia the other day. No Democrat should court her as an ally. She's above such base things as partisan politics anyway.

As an Obama supporter I'd like to extend my sympathies to The Clinton crowd. Paglia is insufferable shrew who wishes she could have 1% of Hillary's influence.

Tons of extremely successful people haven't passed the Bar on their first try.

The Bar is as much about hazing prospective lawyers (and fast writing) as it is a test of applying ones knowledge and reasoning under pressure.
