Justice Stevens Turned 88 Today
Just a quick post to say happy birthday to Justice Stevens. The reason I posted this in GD:P is to serve as a reminder of what's at stake in this election, for all those who say they won't support the eventual nominee. Stevens is 88 and may not make it through another 4 or 8 years. Need I remind everyone that we are one Supreme Court justice away from a reversal of Roe v. Wade?

3. This is why I can't understand feminists who won't vote for Obama
If he is the nominee. It's as if the future of Roe v. Wade is less important than Hillary's political aspirations.

8. Very good point. Hopefully they will come around eventually.
I've always considered myself a feminist, but I just never found Hillary to be as appealing of a candidate as Obama.

6. Who appointed him?
GERALD FORD? Ye Gods.

Still, 90 1/2-year-old Oliver Wendell Holmes has him beat--not the longest serving Justice ever, but he DID make it from one Roosevelt to the other.

11. Bingo and best wishes for his health.
But yes. For the ones that think that not voting for Obama in the GE is a vote for the rights of women are SEVERELY living in a fantasy world.

McCain = Reversal of Roe V. Wade eventually and likely the reversal of MANY other rulings that had helped us over the years.

13. That's why I am so concerned about electability.
And I'm sure that's why many Obama supporters are also so concerned about electability.

We will continue to disagree about who is more electable. I just hope we continue to think in terms of electability, and not raw emotion/personality/DLC/etc.

22. Fair point
I am an Obama supporter, but honestly, I go back and forth every day in terms of who I think is more electable. Since I can't make up my mind about that I am just going with the candidate I like better.

17. This just goes to show you that no matter
which Democratic candidate wins the nomination, you have to vote for them. The stakes are just too high this time.

23. Happy birthday Justice Stevens!
I'll be doing my part and voting Democratic this year. I hope people who are considering voting otherwise would really consider this important issue. It's not just Roe V. Wade... it's a whole host of things that can and WILL go horribly wrong for many years to come if we lose the Supreme Court.
