Just something that confuses me...
Obama has won 30 contests
Hillary has won 14 contests

Obama has won 164 more pledged delegates than Hillary
Factor in SDs and Obama still leads by 140 delegates

Obama has raised almost a quarter of a billion dollars, compared to a fraction of that for Hillary

* * *

All of this is indisputable fact.

Now according to some posters on this board, if Obama loses PA, which for the record would mean he's won exactly twice as many contests as Hillary, then he is not the strongest candidate for the General Election.

I'm not trying to flame bait here. I'm just asking for anyone to explain this to me. Because I honestly don't get how his losing one state "dooms his chances in the GE."

1. It is because, for now, PA counts.
After Wednesday, we join the Iowa brigade.

5. there's a certain logic to it
Pennsylvania being an important state in the general election. If it is still true that a majority of Democrats in that state are refusing to unite behind the front-runner even as he vastly outspends his rival then he is showing some serious weaknesses as a candidate.

I think it's just hard to beat an incumbent, particularly a popular one.

7. What incumbent?
Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 11:10 PM by newmajority
I wasn't aware there was an incumbent in this race.

On the other hand, the PA voters did toss incumbent Rick Santorum out on his Man-on Dog loving ass.

And the guy they replaced him with.......

....well I guess we know who he's voting for. :)

24. Clinton is the incumbent
She is running on her husband's name and his record, and with his help. That's what makes her so tough to beat. He might as well be running for the primary in 1996 or 2000.

29. She's running on his name, but not his record.
Or at least not ALL of his record (i.e. her ridiculous denials of supporting NAFTA).

You are right that beating Bill Clinton is difficult. But Barack Obama has done exactly that. And that's why he is ready to take on Grandpa McLoon and the right wing slime machine. He's fought off the DLC slime machine for months, successfully.

12. The logic is
Obama can not win traditionally blue states. Yes he has won the primaries in the red states. But come november those states belong to McCain.

19. Do you REALLY think
That states like California or New York are suddenly going to up and turn red if Obama is the nominee? There's no logic to saying that, because Hillary beat Obama there then so would McCain. Those states will stay blue no matter what.

21. But see -- it makes perfect sense!
If a democrat beats another democrat in a given state, and the losing democrat wins the nomination, that means that the losing democrat has NO CHANCE against the Republican.

And 2+2=7

Don't fault them though -- they were promised ponies.
