Obama Camp Robocall Hits Hillary On Guns
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 03:49 PM by RamboLiberal
There are still more robocalls flying around in Pennsylvania -- and the latest one from the Obama camp hits Hillary on guns, an apparent effort to push back on her criticism of his "small town" remarks about guns and religion.

The call is being pumped into the Pittsburgh area, and it features Obama backer and local sportsman Dick Lanzoni, lambasting Hillary for voting -- unlike Obama -- against an amendment to an appropriations bill banning the confiscation of weapons in emergencies.

"Barack Obama respects our traditions," he says. "Senator Clinton voted to allow guns to be confiscated, and this raises real doubts."

Over the weekend the news broke that Hillary was hitting Obama with a robocall of her own on energy.

Listen to the Obama guns call here. http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4695591

As a gun owner who watched Blackwater march in to New Orleans following Katrina and who watched the NOLA residents trying to protect their property have their guns confiscated - I approve of this!

28. KO said they were hillary calls. someone on the show said it. hadn't
heard that they were Obama. i don't think he would do that. After all, he didn't make a bosnia commercial or ad over all her stupid bs lately. if they say they are from obama, they might not be.

7. Wow. That's a lot deeper than just gun ownership.
And people scoff when I say Hillary wouldn't hesitate for a nano-second to implement martial law. She helped set it up.

29. D.C. outlaws the possession of ANY firearm in a functional state inside your own home.
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 10:55 AM by benEzra
That was one of the facets of the law specifically struck down by the Heller appellate decision. Under the old law, D.C. outlawed self-defense with any gun, although of course this does not apply to the wealthy (hired bodyguards are exempt from the guns-must-be-nonfunctional-inside-the-District rule, of course) or business owners (because protecting yourself is OK as long as you're not a peon).

FWIW, D.C. also outlaws the most popular rifles in America, even if disassembled and trigger locked.

10. Clinton has stated IN THIS CAMPAIGN that she supports reinstating the AWB.
That should be enough to send every gun owner over to Obama's camp.

I know it's a well-used phrase, but "got a link"?

Actually, anything from his campaign will do.

if Obama is actually in favor of banning the sale and transfer of all semi-automatic weapons, he's wrong, too.

I'd be interested to see where he stands on semiautomatic weapons now.

I KNOW where Clinton stands now...she supports reauthorizing the AWB.

some people will believe him.

Thats what "Hope, Change" really means.

19. 4 Dead, 23 Wounded Over the Weekend

That was the headline in this morning's Chicago Sun-Times. And they were NOT talking about Iraq or Afghanistan.

The headline was also written before final tallies came in. I heard on the radio this morning we had 7 dead and over 40 wounded. More than one gun casualty every hour over the two day weekend.

I am a pro-gun Democrat. One of the reasons I was excited about Howard Dean running in 2004. I finally got to vote for a pro-gun Democrat.

Obama appears to view guns as a local matter. And in Chicago that means anti-. With headlines like that above, you can understand why.

Not to mention the fact that he is coming at this from an African-American background. Did you know that there was nothing racist written into the Lynch Laws? According to those laws, a group of Black men catching a White man who just raped a little Black girl would have been entitled to lynch the White man right there and then.

In reality this would have turned into a race riot (historically almost exclusively a White thing) with scores of African-Americans murdered. And the gov't would have done nothing about it. So the lynch laws had to go.

The same is the problem with firearms. Every Black guy I know in Chicago wishes he could carry a gun legally. But he also knows that even were he allowed to do so, he'd be charged with murder any time he used it in self defense. While a White guy would be hailed as a hero.

This is hardly even just theory or opinion. We had a White man kill a robber in his home a couple years back. Sure enough, he was hailed as a hero, and the NRA was all over the story pushing for more liberal gun laws in Illinois. A few days later a Black man killed a robber in his home. He was arrested (though he did ultimately get off) and all you heard was, "must have been a drug deal gone bad". The NRA even packed up and left. Apparently they weren't too keen on the idea of arming Black men once that though occured to them.

Disclaimer: I know the NRA armed and trained African-Americans down South in the 60s. But this is not our father's NRA. They jumped the track a couple decades ago.

21. Yep - a lot of gun laws actually came about as a way
of keeping guns out of the hands of blacks. That's why in many cases there were more "liberal" concealed carry laws in northern states than in southern states.

23. Hillary Robocall firing back
And I volunteer to take these 2 out to the gun range and let them settle it. Best shooter wins PA!

Here's the transcript:

Hello, this is Hillary Clinton for president calling. Barack Obama is not telling the truth about his past position on the Second Amendment.

As an Illinois state Senator, he supported a ban on all handguns, and he even personally filled out a questionnaire saying he supported the ban. Now instead of telling you the truth about that, he's trying to cover it up, saying he never saw the questionnaire -- even though his handwriting was on it.

And Obama voted to give millions of dollars to anti-gun organizations that are trying to take away our gun rights.

This is just another example of Barack Obama saying one thing, and doing another -- and yet another issue John McCain will use against Obama to win in November.

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/

Hey Obama and Hillary - the NRA will be trashing both of you come the GE! Hillary you got baggage with your backing the AWB, and Obama you have a history with wanting to ban handguns. Good thing I'm not a one-issue voter or I'd be a Repuke.

25. BO & HC are damaging each other over RKBA and that will cost them millions of votes in the GE. Both
should just say they support the Dem Party Platform that says "We will protect Americans' Second Amendment right to own firearms".

Then promise "I will veto every bill that comes to me as president that infringes upon the natural, inherent, inalienable right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms for self-defense".
