Senator Obama is not an evil man
While many of his supporters give one pause, Senator Obama is a gifted politician.

Indeed. Many of them are wonderful
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 08:03 PM by JoFerret
- including many personal friends whom I respect. Many of them are not - some of whom post regularly on DU.

In the end it is all probably in proportion to the supporters of any candidate. Some wonderful, some fine and some completely beyond the pale disgraceful.

I put many of the Hillary trashers in the latter category. And all of the Clinton trashers whose main aim appears to be to destroy anything positive about the last democratic presidency.

2. Obama is totally evil!
I support Obama specifically because he promises great and towering evil. Wars on every continent, turning the dead into food, having dessert before dinner, the whole shooting match. A vote for Obama is a vote for evil!

25. Here are some examples - Obama is "sexist and racist"
Obama's sexist crap is

...sexist crap even when sugar coated.

Storm in doll's teapot.

Of COURSE Obama is sexist and racist.

We all have And we will all suffer the consequences I am sorry to say.
Hoodwinked by the campaign of the empty suit who has been chosen by the party elders to destroy the Clintons and erase the legacy of the only democratic president many people can remember.

The Obama campaign is deeply narcissistic and very destructive.

Obama has already done that to perfection. Or the puppet masters have.

..just watch this board if Obama continues to thrive.

Watch for the gleeful gloating and also for the continuing character assassination and hatred.

27. I find those comments quite reasonable in context
They represent my views on various aspects of the campaign and especially the campaign as waged on DU GD-P. I am a Hillary Clinton supporter. Not because I think she is perfect. Her failings have been much discussed here and elsewhere. I find, also, much to be concerned about re Obama.

And OF COURSE Obama is sexist and racist. You are. We are. I am. There are unsettling aspects of his campaign in this regard also. they have been outlined in posts on this board.

We live in a sexist racist society and it affects ALL of us.
Do you think that somehow being a woman means you are not sexist? Or being black means you are not racist. Do you actually imagine you are neither?

And we are all homophobic too.

29. Truth is
- she does a bit.

It may be quite unfair of me but there is something potentially laurabushishstepfordesque. But then I have only seen her once on TV (Colbert - where she did well I thought) and read the New Yorker piece and a few other things. With such little knowledge I sense a certain insularity of world view that does give me a creepy feeling.

But then - I am very sensitive!

LulaMay nailed a piece of it in that now locked thread she wrote yesterday. There is something about the political wife syndrome that is very often creepy. And the obligatory smooching pics - yuck!

but the fact that you think it is appropriate for discussion reflects on you the invective I called you out and the racial feelings you have admitted to.

16. Maybe watching "John Adams" reminded me of how important the first
spouse can be to a successful presidency :hi: I see her as "Lady Diana" like- fearlessly going out to fight against tough issues poverty and land mines while showing extraordinary grace and beauty.

19. Crikey. Diana! I hope not
(Sorry - I am not a Princess Di fan nor a royalist).

I truly hope that Michelle Obama - if first partner - is her own person and not a shadow help mate who serves the tea and wears the hats. We don't need to go backward just because we have another male president.

And the most significant first partner of more recent vintage imo was Eleanor Roosevelt. And she refused to sleep in the same bed as FDR. He was still a great president. And she a truly REMARKABLE public figure.

I visited Val Kill last year - the house she and FDR built a few miles from the Hyde Park home. If you are ever in the Hudson valley - go visit. Very interesting about her, her times, her values, her work, her legacy.

21. Damn, I didn't even think about all the sexist, royalty baggage Diana carried.
I was remembering her gutsy stands on AIDS and other social issues. Didn't mean this as a put-down of Michelle.

I admire Eleanor very much. Did you see "Warm Springs" on HBO?

17. Hey - people like you who actually WORK
for the candidate, for ideas, for hope, for change, for values, for what you believe and who are willing to stuff envelops and knock on doors and make calls and donate time and heart are GOLDEN.

And disappointment is so hard after a let down. (Like November 2004 after Bush in office again.) But if something is worth working for - you keep at it - find others - and one day Bingo! And then sometimes, after a while, you see different possibilities and compromises and set different goals. But it all still matters.

Which party's candidate is in the WH next years truly MATTERS.

18. The supporters,
some of them, of both DEM candidates give one pause but it's mostly the ones on DU.

The ones IRL are pretty cool on both sides.

And I agree, Obama is not evil, and he's a pretty decent politician. He has run a gifted campaign though.

22. So right. I know many Obama supporters irl
They are - dare I say it - a credit to his campaign. They are people who range from age 13 to 79 and unfailingly civil even when the issues get heated. The teenagers get a little vitriolic and the older ones more steadfast. Not surprising. There are also some unsettling currents among supporters of both candidates. This "race" has stirred up some deep stuff. And DUers are paddling in it. And both candidates are paddling and peddling.

20. True. And Sen Clinton isn't an evil woman
even though I have been questioning her tactics recently.

We really need to get past this mutual demonization that seems to be taking hold of our party. We have created caricatures of the candidates--something the republicons always do--and it won't do anything for anyone if we allow them to persist. It's like we have become so accustomed to RW misinformation/bias that we have begun employing it on our own.

24. It's pretty apalling how easily both "sides" have adopted
the language, labels, name calling, and tactics of the GOP and of freeperville.

Want to slam Hillary? Just dig in the archive of freeperland and your work is done for you
Want to tear Obama down - the r/w have done it already. Just go borrow.

And rather than take on the individual candidate we have also started to play the game of destroy any positive memory of the Clinton presidency. Now THAT is truly playing the GOP game. God forbid that there should ever have been a successful democratic president.
