Right at the top of her interview on Countdown, Olbermann asked her what the president could do about gas prices. She said she would investigate market manipulation, release oil from the Reserve, consider a gas tax holiday, and this:
"I would consider that. But you’re right. Ultimately we’re going to have to have an energy policy that actually moves us from our dependence on foreign oil and being literally over the oil barrel with the oil producing countries and companies. I think if the president were to make a speech tomorrow, Keith, and that’s the kind of speech I would give right now, that we are finally serious."http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24247198/It sound like she's saying that to get serious about energy policy, we need a presidential speech to mobilize the American people. Of course, that would require the speaker to be able to persuade the public to make the necessary sacrifices, a speaker like Franklin Roosevelt, like John Kennedy, like...Barack Obama?
Geez, and I thought speeches don't matter. Turns out they're an important part of being president.
