So....

I'm sitting here... and my coworker says that he son was watching wrestling and hillary was "on" (taped I'm guessing?) and that she told the crowd they should just call her .... some wrestling name or something....

I was like

Is this true? Anyone have any details?

6. I hate to hear politicans talk about themselves in third person
It signals a disturbing disconnect between themselves as a person and themselves as a product.

25. Beats me who he was referencing... I just saw it on TV news
Perhaps it was out of context, but I'm not the only one who saw that and doesn't watch wrestling and so have no idea what the reference would be. And I didn't get the cooking reference either.

44. Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock used that as his signature catchphrase
"Do you smell what The Rock is cookin'?"

I've been wanting Senator Obama to put his name in place of The Rock's name for months now and was ecstatic when he actually did it.

10. I posted that yesterday in the video forum
The wrestling match was real on Raw, with wrestlers made to look like the candidates.

Bill Clinton was on the sidelines running interference and Obama attacked hillary
with his fake giant ears...... It was pretty lame.

12. I saw the clips, and I agree. It was pretty lame.
I'm an old Hart Foundation fan who hasn't really watched WWF(E) since Owen died. I really did like WCW for a while, though, when Bret went there (also liked Benoit — how sad was that — Jericho, Malenko, Eddie Guerrero — miss him — and LaParka(!))

27. Wasn't LaParka 'The Chairman'? Didn't he do that strange dance?
My (19 year-old) son watched it in his room last night and was laughing so hard we could hear him down the hall and in the living room (and his door was closed)!

Hey, if wrestling fans vote and this is the way to reach them...so be it.

He would do a dance on a chair when he was winning a match. Many's a time I'd watch Lucha Libre on the Spanish channels just to see LaParka. He'd crack me up without saying a word!

for the smaller (but insanely athletic) guys.

Haven't checked in to WWE for a long time, though, because I can't stand the sight of Vince McMahon. (Yeah, I know he owns ECW too.)

I guess we two are just unrepentant wrestling fans.

Yes that's right. All three of them were in the opening sketch of the CMT awards, trying to scam tickets to the event.

Hosted by Billy Ray Mullet Cyrus and his Disney princess daughter, no less.

They can't get a REAL debate on TV, but they can do this kind of shit.

Fucking corporate media.

7. At the danger of outing myself as a fan of male soap opera, here is the skinny.
The 3 remaining candidates all made taped statements during the WWE's biggest show Raw last night.

All 3 statements were so panderific(lamely incorporating old wrestling slogans), there were audible groans.

Later Vince McMahon trotted out Bill, Hillary & Obama look alikes that made lame ass jokes (though the guy doing Barack doing the Rock was enjoyable). Then "Obama" & "Hillary" wrestled to a draw.

29. From the point of view of a wrestling fan....the interviews
Mccain included about 9 or 10 wrestling references and came off as a old man desperate to seem cool.

Obama was basically reading from a cue card, and was really phoning it in. 'If you smell what Barack is cooking' was badass though.

Hillary was robotic, but still cuts a better promo than half the women on the roster.

33. WWE has had a get-out-the-vote campaign for years...
From their website...

"Smackdown Your Vote! is a non-partisan partnership to encourage more 18 to 30 year olds to vote. Among the organizations participating are the League of Women Voters, the National Association of Secretaries of State, the Harvard Institute of Politics, Rock the Vote and the University of Virginia’s Youth Leadership Initiative, and Rock the Vote. Smackdown Your Vote! has engaged in various activities and provided resources to reach young adults throughout the U.S. to encourage them to become more active in the democratic process."

Back in 2000 a friend of mine and I went to a WWF event, and a cute little volunteer got him to register to vote. He wasn't all that politically involved back then; now I have a hard time getting him to talk about anything but politics.
