Dear Hillary- Some images to drive a point home.
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 01:15 PM by Mother Of Four
(Edited to change title- was obscure)

If we forget the Devastation- we are bound to repeat it.

Dear Senator, Japan is a country separate from the nearby continent by a body of water- therefore much of the devastation was contained.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki-

Hiroshima, after the first atomic bomb explosion. This view was taken from the Red Cross Hospital Building about one mile from the bomb burst. (Photo from U.S. National Archives, Still Pictures Branch, Subject Files, "Atomic Bomb")

Ground view of Nagasaki before and after the bombing; 1,000 foot circles are shown. (Photo from U.S. National Archives, RG 77-MDH)

These are not from a hack website- These are from the National Security Archive.
http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB162/index.htm

And this Dear Senator, is the exact type of victim that you would cause us to have.

(Translation by babel- A child of Nagasaki holding in hand a rice pelotte. Rather than the color of blood, the odor of dust and death, only one image in black and white summarize all the despair of people. Who hears his call? Document of Yosuki Yamahata.)

Launching those WMD's against civilians is one of the greatest shames in our countries history, and you blithely state you would have no reservations at "Obliterating" a country.

I have no words to express how I'm feeling Senator, only my deep and heartfelt wish that you never are permitted into a position that will allow you to act in such a way.

1. My dear friend, Chikako, is a survivor.
She was 3 and living in Hiroshima when our government dropped the A Bomb. She still suffers this many years later.

That these devices are still stashed all over our country this many years later is mind boggling to me.

It is past shameful. Shame on Hillary for threatening Iran.

MERCY!

7. Nope. Anyone who even remotely ponders their use needs to see these pics and more.
Bush and Co like to hide the images of war. We ALL need a constant reminder, and Hillary wants to play the saber rattling game like the big boys with the big toys. A reminder is ALWAYS in order for anyone considering this madness.

that sounds like a nomination she could win.

8. Which is exactly why Iran needs to heed the warning.
Nobody's talking about a US first strike (except for Bush and Cheney, of course). If Iran STARTS IT by nuking Israel, they will have brought it on themselves.

So maybe they'd better not do that ...

All Hillary did was say out loud what has been our policy for years. Thank God it's never come to that.

18. Our policy as a nation has been, for years, "proportional response"
If the premise is an Iranian nuclear strike, that pretty much sets the "proportion" of the US response.

Things I learned watching The West Wing ...

22. Fine, let proportional response be our tactic
should WE be attacked, first of all. Israel is not part of the United States.

Second of all, there is NO REASON for her to say what she said. What we will always remember is her use of the word "obliterate" in conjunction with Iran, and I can guarantee you that's all they will remember as well.

26. Our policy is not isolationism. We defend our allies.
That's been true in both Dem and Repub administrations. We defend our allies, particularly since an attack of that magnitude on Israel would render Israel helpless.

I wouldn't want you for an ally ...

Defend our Allies doesn't mean dropping nuclear bombs on countries that didn't attack us.

32. Unofficially, they do.
And they might be wiped out in a nuclear first strike by Iran. If that happens, we defend our ally.

Odds are we wouldn't have to; Israel would see theirs coming and launch their own nukes.

You offer NOT ONE, NOT A SINGLE alternative. We defend our allies. It is our national policy, whether you like it or not.

34. "They will have brought it on themselves"
Ah yes the wonderful, amorphous "they". Are "They" like this person?

Or are "They" demons hateful even to the sight?

Perhaps "They" deserve all "They" get because of a few fools who rule them

What happens if Israel responds with it's significant nuclear arsenal Should we nuke "Them" as well

Why don't we just save time and begin Armageddon now like the Fundies want, bring on the rapture so that the saved can turn round and say "Told you so!"

Sickening and I do not mean Iranians or Israelis

36. "They" meaning the hypothetical Iranian leaders who order a first strike on Israel.
Nations are allowed to retaliate/respond to attacks. What do you want to do? Turn the other cheek?

Why no demonizing of a potential Iranian first strike on Israel? Aren't dead Israelis worth as much to you? They'd be just as dead ...

Frankly, if the Iranian people want to be part of the world community of nations, they need to get rid of their leaders who threaten this kind of bullshit. Ahmadinejad has repeatedly stated that Israel has no right to exist (something even Hamas has grudgingly almost conceded recently); he's done his share of saber rattling too (even though he has little, if any, real power). Why no condemnation of that?

I'll say it plainly, once again. If Iran were to carry out a nuclear first strike against Israel, Israel would be absolutely justified in launching a retaliatory strike against Tehran or anywhere else in Iran it deemed appropriate. Israel has been our ally since 1948 or so. It is surrounded by hostile nations. Our national policy, whether you like it or not, is to defend our ally.

Nobody, including the US, should execute any kind of nuclear first strike, pre-emptive or otherwise. "Nobody" also includes Iran.

38. Nukes and "Obliteration"
do not distinguish between guilty and innocent, between politicians and children. Fallout does not distingush between countries and continents, between human or animal or plant life. It would be bad enough if Iran and Israel nuked each other but to add to the suffering by throwing more into the mix is not just stupidity of the first order it is criminality, stunning in the depth of callousness and ignorance. Of course I would care about the Israelis who would die, but I would also care about the Palestinians who would also suffer. I care about the poisoned land and the burden of cancers and deformities and stillbirths that would become endemic in the northern hemisphere.

Even assuming that Israel did not respond, would Jordan stand by while it's land was poisoned by another member of the Umma? Or would the Palestinians (who would die in their hundred of thousands) be likewise sanguine about such losses, merely crying "Imsh'allah" as they survey the ruin of their homeland?

Would the Saudis or the Egyptians or the Turks or the Syrians or the Russians or the Chinese be similarly uncaring or would they all, without exception, seek the death of the fools who harmed them so greviously? What you forget in your arrogance is that there are others, besides the USA, who would have greater cause to destroy the Iranian leadership for such madness. They would seek the ending of the regime but without the MADness of further nuclear assaults.

10. I visited Nagasaki a few years ago

When I heard what HC said about Iran, the first thing that ran through my mind was the visit that I made to the Nagasaki Museum.

They have photographs of what the country looked like after the strikes.

I also toured schools all over the city.

I happened to be in Nagasaki on the 4th of July. It is now Crystal clear to me that "I don't want to study War No More."

There has got to be a better way.

11. And the bombs they have nowadays are much, much bigger...
Hiroshima was 12.5 kilotons.
This is 11 megatons:

This is 15 megatons:

The blast spread high levels of radiation nearly 300 miles away

Is this what we want to leave as our legacy?

13. It's horrifying-
Some/many politicians talk about how we must NOT allow WMD's in other countries, yet we still have them here.

Forget innocent lives lost-
Forget enduring radiation messing with the next generations, twisted babies who never hurt a soul-
Forget land being poisoned and unable to grow anything-
Forget Historical Buildings and art lost-

Let's NUKE them...that'll teach them to get out of hand! Punish the many to get to the few- That's the ticket!:sarcasm:

Pardon me while I :puke:

Hillary, what are you THINKING? You're supposed to protect life, not talk about killing children. AGAINST the war, not speaking about a new one. As I said in my OP, there are no words for how I'm feeling.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, she still supports Cluster Bombs as well.
