Hillary Clinton has stir up international outrage,
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 02:45 PM by spokane
Senator Hillary Clinton comments about Iran nuking Israel and
United States retaliating has got the international press talking
and unsettling.

Here are few of the responses from News around the world;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7359957.stm

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story.html?id=76fc0cd7-a83b-4d63-9316-fcce07a91ce0

What is wrong with her?

Hillary supporters, maybe some of you can explain this, is she that
desperate to create this kind of stir with countries reporting
unsettling actions from its citizens from the price of food and
now she is talking another war.

This is accelerated self destruction...

11. I think in one of her lives she was from that country.
So far she has more ties from places than any one I ever saw. I never understood her running in NY. Heck she spent more time in Mass. in college. Now she may have lived in the Middle East and we just missed it. I sort of wish the Clinton would go 'home' to Ark. like Harry went home to Mo. Give us a brake from these endless Bush/Clinton group. I am just sick of them all that have been in DC for so long. They have made such a mess, let some one else try.

24. She said she wanted to create a "security umbrella"
with any country in the ME that would give up nukes. The US would respond with "massive retaliation" against any country that attacked those ME countries.

That is a recipe for WWIII. It's insane. Then add her comments about obliteration and Israel's protectorate. This is what the Arab countries have been saying for years, that the US sides with Israel over all reason and rationality. Hillary just proved it's true.

No lies. I don't know why you can't see that the Clintons are exactly the same as the Bush's as far as globalization and global militarism goes. Did you forget Clinton enacted the military changes that Cheney suggested? Did you forget that Poppy was pushing China trade? Do you really think the consequences of NAFTA and deregulation were accidents? Jesus god wake the hell up. They are not on our side. We will have to raise hell with any President -- but the Clintons have proven they won't listen.

in the past month something has happened with you. Seriously, you cannot defend her comment. Please don't try to. If you support her otherwise sane political policies - that's great, but don't support this. Please. This is no better than what Cheney has been out there doing, and we've been screaming about here on DU for months.

6. I'm with rinsd
but both candidates seem to have foot in mouth disease lately.

A more critical intellectual exercise is to ask WHY a candidate would say something like that, and what, in their cost-benefit analysis would lead them to believe saying such a thing was worth saying it?

Words are not wars in a campaign. You can basically dismiss most of what you hear as rhetoric designed to win somebody's heart, mind, or vote.

I leave the analysis to you at the risk of having APAC ride in and start crapping everywhere AGAIN.

28. okay I'll bite
There is clearly a powerful enough voting bloc such a statement would appeal to.

to be more, and less clear, there are people who unfortunately don't see anything at all wrong with her saying that.

Words do matter of course, but on a campaign a politico's goals are almost always short term and have little to nothing to do with expecting to actually deliver on their rhetoric.

What matters is that gullible people swallow it, hook line and sinker.

geez I'm cynical these days! :hi:

she ain't my candidate. I can't stand either of them.

Unlike rabid supporters of either candidate, I do take care not to drink anyone's koolaid but my own. Is there a bite my ass smiley somewhere? (kidding, humor)

How ya like me naow spokane!

Actually I have not been back to DU in a while, but word up bro: it's a waste of time to "put in context" words in mouths that were never said or implied.

I'll tell you directly what I have had enough of:

Candidates that want my vote even though they are against recognizing my family and marriage unless we "call it something else". So, YOUR candidate (whichever one that is) can suck it too. This mo and his partner and kids do not sit in the back of the bus, EVER, and we don't ask permission either. Apparently, both candidates have an issue with that so I have an issue with them. Wish I could care about the war, the economy, healthcare, the environment, etc., but beyond living conscientiously and being a humanitarian (as opposed to waiting for a candidate to show me how), my family comes first.

I could give a flip what happens or does not happen to Israel, the middle east, or any other place that consistently shits where it eats. Why aren't we in Darfur? Why are SOME countries more equal than others in our foreign affairs regard? That's the crap in politics that makes me such a cranky bastard these days.

The list just gets longer and longer as the race goes on. Nobody's perfect, but the cumulative signs do not bode well for the kind of leadership Hillary would offer the country. The President needs to lead on the national level as well bring nations together as a leader of the world community. If she's willing to dismissively incite this kind of international outrage for a few Primary votes, how would she deal with a real international crisis?

"That's a terrible thing to say but those people who run Iran need to understand that because that perhaps will deter them from doing something that would be reckless, foolish and tragic," Clinton said.

OK, what the Hell is "perhaps" doing in this sentence. It makes no sense. It's a minor point but
it's significant. It indicates that she's not even thinking.

You say you're going to wipe out millions of people and then you say "perhaps" it will work.
Small fragment but it shows how weak her thought processes are.

Looks like Americans are about to make the same dumb mistake they made

machines. These days its hard to separate the two, stupidity or rigging
the votes you decide.
