Chris Matthews just said the Media is to Blame for manufacturing a democratic "race" when its over.
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 05:59 PM by Political Heretic
On MSNBC just now. He said its probably "we, in the media's fault" for hyping this process so much and giving Clinton supporters the illusion that Hillary can somehow still win this thing. She can't. Obama would have to have some disqualifying scandal. The only hope is to go to "appeals court and beg to change all the rules"

Obviously I don't have a transcript, but that's pretty close to exactly what he said.

I was a bit surprised to capture such a moment of honesty from the media. :wow: :scared:

67. 52% of Pennsylvannia Clinton voters, according to the exit polls
And I'm still behind Obama. He's won the votes, and whatever "electability" argument Clinton is trying to make in regards to Obama, her unfavorables are even higher and she's *more* unelectable.

Hillary's unwillingness to face that fact doesn't change it, and all she's doing now is lessening Democratic chances in November by continuing to tear-down the eventual Democratic nominee, Obama.

Oh, well. Some will survive 4 more years of Republicans in the White House.

76. A McCain presidency keeps presidency on hold for four years. Obama presidency seals the door shut
on Hillary and she can't take it.

She screwed over every Dem voter in 2000 and 2002 and 2004 as the DNC was used mainly to service the Clintons and their agenda and had no interest in serving Dem voters and candidates then.

who will side with the secrecy and privilege of the Bushes and the powerful elite over YOUR citizens' right to open and accountable government.

Yep - THAT'S the way to use your citizenship - Better to NOT TRUST the open government advocate - trust the ones who PROVED they side with Bushes and closed government.

9. For once in his McCain-mancrush life, he's right.
Funny - I was just catching up on my blog reading:

http://www.americablog.com/2008/04/hillary.html

For the love of God, would a real reporter please just ask Hillary under what possible scenario she gets more delegates, more states, or more votes than Obama? You all keep playing this game of following her around like she's news. The only reason she's news is that she's an election zombie, roaming the primaries like she's still viable, when she's not. And you know it. And you've written it. But you don't ask her about it. Far more important than even Hillary's bizarre and ever-changing views on nuclear weapons policy is the fact that it doesn't matter any more what Hillary thinks about anything. She lost the nomination. She can't win. And short of an asteroid falling on Obama's head, he's going to get the nomination. We're all focused like a laser beam on the Pennsylvania results as if they matter. They don't. She lost. She can't catch up. We all know it. So why are we still playing this game? Because it would be mean to tell her the truth? Mean to ask her to explain how she possibly wins enough delegates, or even votes, when the math says she can't? What is she, 12? George Stephanopoulos said he couldn't think of a harder question to ask Hillary than as to why people don't trust her. Well, here's one, George: "Under what possible scenario could you catch up to Obama in either delegates or votes?" And don't accept her platitudes about "counting every vote." She can't mathematically overtake Obama, so what is she doing, other than wasting all of our time (and destroying her family's reputation)? (That's another "hard" question, George.)

30. That's the only logical reason. Any other reason implies delusion.

If she can make Obama lose, she'll run again in 2012 against Pres. McCain. I'm sure that's the bet she's making. Just like the bet she made to vote for the IWR and look how well that turned out for the country she claims to care about.

38. Illusion is a harsh word.
Don't fault Clinton supporters for believing so strongly, and fighting so hard, when the odds are greatly against them. Fault Clinton herself, if you must blame somebody, for being an inspiring candidate and sticking with it for so long.

The odds of our fixing what's wrong with America are a much longer shot, in my opinion. We can learn something from them, and we might as well call it hope. Imagine if we could harness even a fraction of it a year from now, and apply it to the hard and tedious work of repairing *'s fuck-ups!

ALL of them in the newsmedia knew about McClatchy's survey of supers after Super Tuesday.

The Clintons managed to convince people that there WAS reason to go on as if they would release damning material against Obama, and none of the news organizations wanted to be responsible on the REAL STORY if that happened.

Clintons had NOTHING - nothing but BLUFF and BLUSTER.

64. Matthews has a point
Even winning by a large margin Clinton would not even get to within 100 delegates from Obama, and the bad news for her is that the next states after PA are pro-Obama, according to polls.

69. finally someone in the media says what many of us have said
all along - people hate him here - I don't. I think he's quite erudite. He's a thinker -
unlike the rest of the boobs.

71. Cable and broadcast media is the big winner in all of this...

as long as they can keep the race close, then viewership will remain high and candidates will continue to raise money for advertising.

72. A moment of clarity - The Clintons will probably demand he retract it or be fired.

83. To which I can only say to Mr. Matthews
Thank you master of the bloody obvious.
:grr:

This is ridiculous. If the circumstances were reversed the powers that be would have been publicly pushing for Obama to stand down long before it got to this point. But I don't suppose we'll have any Hillary supporters admit that shall we?

<sigh>

Regards
