Well, fuck you and your conscience...
I just read another of those tearful "I can't in good conscience..." posts. Doesn't make a damn bit of difference which candidate offends the poster's conscience, it's the arrogance of such a post which offends me.

Whatever you think, this is still a republic, and voting for someone is not an act of heroism, but a fundamental responsibility of citizenship-- that means it's your fucking job to choose President whether you like it or not.

So you don't like the candidates? Tough, you still gotta figure out which one the lousy choices is still the best under the circumstances, 'cause one of them is going to get the job, and you have small part in deciding who. That's your job.

Whining about the choices and skulking home is the coward's way out, a sleazy shitstained childish way to avoid responsibility. Do those of you who "can't in good conscience..." make similar choices in your life that have real consequences where people can see what you're doing?

Choices where you aren't some anonymous bigshot on an internet board? Choices where you could get fired, or suffer some other dire fate? Or even some temporary inconvenience?

All life's choices are not always good ones, so whoever wins the nomination I'm gonna work for him or her to get elected, and be first on line to vote for him or her in November because some things you just gotta do.

McCain is that bad. Enough said.

13. I think we'll have lots of company in that!
Since I vote by mail-in ballot from home, I don't have to worry about a DUI. :P

6. Don't worry. They will vote for the nominee.
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 11:26 PM by zlt234
They're just angry their candidate didn't win tonight.

Whoever the nominee is, the other candidate's supporters here will vote for them. This is DU, not McCain Underground. The same stuff happened when Howard Dean lost. It just wasn't as explosive because he lost early.

7. Damned right. I don't like or trust him, but I will vote for Obama if he is the nom.
I am a Democrat first, and this country won't survive another 4 years of Republican rule.

It's too important to give the Repubs this one just cuz you have to have a little tantrum.

11. There are more than 2 choices on a ballot and a write in option...
No one HAS TO pick from the two main parties.

If Clinton still had a path to the nomination, I might be concerned that I wouldn't be voting for the D, but luckily she is officially finished after tonight, so many of us can vote for the D.

16. Nope. Not more than 2 viable candidates.
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 11:28 PM by zlt234
You could vote on emotion for some 3rd party candidate, but our system is a two-party system. Deal w/it. If you want to change the system, then fight to change the system. But until the system is changed, a vote for someone else is a vote for McCain, regardless how much you delude yourself into thinking otherwise.

21. So what?
There are more than 2 candidates on a ballot and you are free to choose from any of whom you wish.

12. dit...
(I was gonna say ditto, but rush wrecked it for me). My thought processes ared decidedly utilitarian, I've been picking the lesser of 2 evils ever since the first time I voted, and this is not the election to throw a self-righteous hissy fit over. I don't like her, but I'll vote for her because anyone is better than McCain....especially with a geriatric supreme court!

15. Excellent, EXCELLENT POST!
I keep saying over and over again that if the choice is between having no possibility of positive change in the next 8 years and a miniscule possibility of positive change, I must at least cast my vote for the miniscule possibility. What else can I do? Let freaking McCain coast to victory? Good grief people!

even though I didn't win the lottery, everything else went right and I felt like ranting.

(No point in ranting when you're in a bad mood-- just makes everyone more pissed off)

20. No, not for election theft
I have to draw the line somewhere. That's my line. I won't vote for any other candidate, but I won't vote for someone who would steal an election from the people either. Just won't do it. That's my duty to democracy. No to election theft.

26. Everybody votes their conscience.
Apparently, your conscience tells you to vote despite what you feel, think, about the nominees.

Others disagree with your conscience and obey their own.

27. I disagree
We are down to a choice between a Democrat who represents change in a system that is bordering on broken and DINO who represents politics as usual, and I will vote according to that perception. I'm not stuck in the mindtrap that says ANY Democrat is better than NO Democrat, because a vote for HRC, in my opinion, is no better than a vote for John McCain. They work for and worship the same big business machine that has RUINED American politics.

My vote is important to me, and I'm not going to throw it away. I refuse to vote for the person who is hell-bent on ripping the populist message from the Democratic Party.
