If there's one problem at the polls, it's people showing up who are not registered as either a Democrat or a Republican -- the only voters eligible to cast ballots in today's primary.

Just ask Richard Anthony, a 62-year-old who runs the machines that make marshmallow Peeps at Just Born Inc. in Bethlehem.

Anthony, who has voted in many presidential elections, was excited about participating in today's hotly contested presidential Democratic primary -- a rarity in Pennsylvania .

But he was turned away at his voting precinct in West Bethlehem because he is a registered independent.

He's not alone.

Stacy J. Sterner, chief clerk of the Lehigh County Board of Elections, says she's hearing there are large numbers of people at polls throughout the state who are discovering they can't vote.

and register accordingly, they can (and do) change affiliation

30. Parties vary their rules from primary to primary.

There's a lot you simply can't find out about in state voting.

For example, if there was a call for a recount in any of 51 counties that have touch screens, there
would have been no recount because there are no ballots. The "trouble tickets" are not in yet so
we don't know how extensive the problems are or the locations. We'll see.
