3. MSM needs to make it look like double-digits
Why honor the will of the voters? Spin SELLS!

Matthews: Media Created The “Delusion” That Clinton Could Win
During Tuesday’s Democratic presidential primary coverage on MSNBC co-host, Chris Matthews, declares the race between Obama and Clinton to be essentially over before the polls closed in Pennsylvania and blames “the media” for creating a horse race he says doesn’t exist.

“…But I really do think it’s a strange time because we’re all watching to see who won, but as Nora pointed out, 4 out of 5 ,or so, of the Hillary voters today believe she’s still in the running. That this is still up in the air and I think that was probably a mistake of the media. I think in the effort of the media, to try to keep this game going, we’ve created the delusion that somehow this race is still open. I don’t think it is open. I think if you look at the numbers Barack has to really blow it in the weeks ahead to lose.”

9. Yes, but the county website is reporting it as CNN is reporting it.
I wish state site is right of course. However, at this point the county website is probably a more credible source.

We will see in the morning.

10. lancaster posted election results as well
check the lancaster webpage and click on "primary election information" then "2008 primary election results" then "democratic" then "federal". The results for president are consistent with CNN's reporting. note that other elections on the ballot had close to the sum of total votes reported on the PA SOS website for democratic candidate (>60k).

8. What's weird is the totals for Obama on both sites don't show the Lancaster discrepancy. In fact
CNN shows a little over 1000 more votes total for Obama than the state site does.

12. True, but both sites say that Lancaster is 100% counted.
Perhaps the County site is more accurate than the Secretary of State site? If so, why?

15. the reason that the lancaster discrepancy does not show up in the CNN totals
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 03:36 AM by jbardin
is that it is buried in the noise as other results have boosted both candidates totals. If you were to add 13000 votes to the totals for Obama on CNN, you would find that the percentages agree much better. (SOS-O 45.7%, CNN,adjusted-45.6%).

I want to trust the SOS data, but as it is inconsistent with other voting data in the region, feel it is safe to say that the county data, which is consistent with CNN, is most likely the correct data.

Nonetheless, this small difference will have a only small effect in the long run. It might not be such a bad thing if the primaries drag on some more; DEMOCRATS ARE REGISTERING IN RECORD NUMBERS and this will certainly play a role in the general election! Clinton needs 69% victories in the remaining primaries to come out ahead in pledged delegates, which Pelosi and other top democrats have been vocal in supporting as the group that will decide the nomination. So far, she has only gotten above 54% six times (PA-55%, NY-57%, RI-58%, OK-55%, AR-70%, and MA-56%). Furthermore, she has only broken 69% once. Therefore, it makes sense for Obama supporters to stop worrying about a brokered nomination and embrace the 'tight race' as an effort to register more democrats.

13. Look & compare turnouts, specifically the Lancaster turnout...
There are something "fishy" with the turnout numbers there.

14. Northampton is actually quite different as well.
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 03:31 AM by FlyingSquirrel
Both sites say 100% counted

SOS: Clinton 18,296, Obama 12,215

CNN: Clinton 31,583, Obama 19,893

Clinton gains 13,287 while Obama gains 7,678

Interesting.......

Well, this may just be a tempest in a teapot. I guess the county sites are probably right. I'm gonna go to bed.
