Lapel Pins and Hunting Girls
The Democratic Candidates are being slowly torn into by trivial things. The average person is getting sick of the pot shots. You know what would make the whole process easier on the candidates, while at the same time being more democratic and efficient? Have every state hold their primary election on the same day. Boom! Everybody votes, it's over, and we get a candidate. Forget the Superdelegate BS. Why do we need them? Just have a vote.

There's no adjustment or calculation after a loss or win. You can't go back and change what you said before. The slow primary scheme we have now leads to desperation like we see with Hillary Clinton. She is not going to accept loss without thoroughly trashing Obama in the process. And even if she loses, she might end up winning anyway.

I think we need a more fair system of choosing our candidate. Just put it to a vote. One day and out.

2. Sounds like a good idea to me. Less torture and suspense for the voters.
But the way it's been explained is that the super delegates are in place to serve as the "deciders" in case of a deadlock. To determine the nominee, Dean wants them all to endorse somebody soon, ahead of the convention.

And what would they talk about on all the news shows?!

4. If we "Just put it to a vote" then Clinton would've won by now.

5. I think what you propose is coming
<<Have every state hold their primary election on the same day. Boom! Everybody votes, it's over, and we get a candidate. Forget the Superdelegate BS. Why do we need them? Just have a vote.>>

Larger, more populous states are not happy that Iowa and New Hampshire have such a big influence in choosing the President. No matter what you think of the delegate issue, you have to see the logic of what the Michigan and Florida legislatures wanted to do, which is simply make their voices heard. There are 3 changes I'd like for 2012:

1. A national primary weekend (2 days of the polls being open in all 50 states, the city that should be a state, and the island that votes in spite of not wanting to be a state)
2. Only party members vote, and you have to be a party member for at least 30 days prior to the primary
3. Nix the caucuses

9. When candidates had to travel by train, this process made sense
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 08:09 AM by OmahaBlueDog
1 or 2 states voted each week, and candidates crafted and honed their message while criss-crossing the country.

11. I like your idea. I've been told that we "need" to have this thing
all spread out so the candidates can visit every state, and have big rallies, providing an opportunity to get their message out. A couple of nights on tv and they can reach just as many people with that message as they can doing numerous speeches in gyms, football fields, and the like.

8. No. The system doesn't work
Why do New Hampshire or Iowa's vote count more than Kentucky's? Neither Clinton nor Obama were my first choice as candidates.

10. I don't think the system does work
I think we've elected 2 presidents from our party since Super Tuesday was introduced.
