Give us a Debates...who cares if there has been 23 already?
There have only been four debates between only the two candidates. The last debate had 10 MILLION viewers. Apparently Americans outside of DU are not tired of debates. Why is he afraid? The presidency is much more difficult than ABC. Give the same respect to Oregonians, Indianans, and North Carolinians as you gave Pennsylvanians. No one who wants to president should be afraid of questions and rather hide behind beautiful speeches,

1. The debates would be okay if the moderators weren't so lame.
But if we are going to have stupid and inane questions anyway, I say why waste our time.

4. I agree some of those questions were stupid...
especially "does Rev. Wright love America as much as you do?" But I don't think some stupid questions are a reason to avoid debates.

17. They never turn out to be debates though
It's just an opportunity for these so-called reporters to show off with a gotcha question to their 'brother' or 'sister' reporters. It's easy to understand Obama's reluctance. It was an Obama pile-on by a former Clinton staffer and supporter (conflict of interest) and old Charlie trying to appear relevant.

They are not debates. They are reporter 'look at me' TV fests.

18. I think it is...it focuses the world on the miscellany that is dominating this election
and trivializes it.

And it makes us look really petty in the eyes of the world. Its embarrassing.

2. Hillary has no more right to debate Obama than Huckabee
It's her own tactic, not debating while out in front. And especially not with somebody who has no chance of winning the nomination. She's history.

3. Should McCain agree to a debate with Huckabee and Paul?
Of course not. This primary is over too. We need to focus on McCain. The debates are a distraction to that, at best.

14. The North Carolina Democratic Party cancelled that debate
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 03:11 AM by SunsetDreams
Why do we need more debates? There have been 21 nationally aired debates. They were not just aired in the states that would be voting next, they were aired across the U.S.

If people have not seen them by now, then they just are not that interested to begin with.

North Carolina even said there had been 21 already, and didn't see the need for another. They also cited that the last one, the issues barely got discussed.

Hillary just wants free airtime, because she is running out of money, and wants to play gotcha politics, instead of dicussing the issues.

Were you not aware of the outcry from the American people the last time over the ABC debate? It wasn't just Obama supporters who decried it, it was Hillary supporters, undecideds, independents and yes even Republicans. It was a sham. Hillary doesn't deserve another debate, because she egged it on.

The debates are not going to change the outcome at this point, the math is no longer there for Hillary. The only debate Obama needs to do is with McCain.

16. I won't watch it
The "moderators" will spend 30 minutes with tabloid, gotcha questions.

Then for the next 15 minutes, Hillary and Obama will have their usual hackneyed argument about the very trifling differences between their health care plans.

Tim Russert will dredge up some old quote from someone 15 years ago to try and trap one or both of the candidates.

Frank Luntz will have a post-debate focus group of his usual cast of professional undecided voters.

Followed by endless hours of spin and analysis by the Georgetown Cocktail Party crowd.

I'd rather watch an episode of "Dr. Bob removes a gall bladder" on Discovery Health Channel.

20. Runaway Obama!
Run away from more debates, even if the people want them.

Run away from revotes in FL and MI, even if Hillary pays for them.

Run away from the voters of FL and MI, who, because of you, will not get a vote, even though it's not their fault.

Run away from Rev Wright, even though you listened to his sermons for 20 years.

Run away from Rezko, even though you would not be where you are without him.

Run away, Obama, run away.

22. 23? I haven't seen a debate yet
And I've watched most of them. I haven't seen a debate in decades.

If Hill agrees to a moderator with a striped shirt, a stopwatch, and a whistle, then go for it. Otherwise, I'm not interested in seeing another farce orchestrated by preening, posturing, empty-headed media suits.

23. What is the point when these two seem to be running on how to
get to the WH on two different terms? We are just about back to old times in crewing each other up and we are in one party. What will it be when we get to the real race? The crewing up has become what the news and I guess what the people want. Obama wanted a higher tone and I think the young people saw this but it just did not sit with the Clinton's. I see their point. It seemed they plannned on sewing this up early and along comes this nice man who wanted a new tone and new people in DC and things did not work for them soooooo we get this mess. Hurts us all. If the party had gone into the election on the high tone and run against the curruptions of the Bush people we would have a change to win, but with this tone, who ever wins, it looks to me like people will just give up and either not vote or will say heck we could take McCain for 4 years. Why do another one to feed into this?

24. Only if Bill Moyers
and Walter Chronkite are the Moderators...

Otherwise, like someone else mentioned, its only because Killery is Broke and needs free airtime so she can purse those shriveled lips adorning her Skeletor head, and cluck at a Gentleman who she treats like some kind of fucked up Ex Husband, when she never had the Nerve (since it wasn't politically expedient for HER) or common decency to throw HERS OUT for his absolute disrespect for ALL Women..

Yeah, she's a Fine example of a forward thinking liberated woman alright, I could think of dozens of Real Women that should be running instead of HER.

Besides, if anyone is a Chicken, it is HER, Scared to play by the Rules, demanding everyone votes so she can overturn the Will of the People by lying to Super Delegates...

Not to mention her followers would rather see McCain WIN than vote for the true Democrat, that's Real Adult of them..

Screw her and those who would hand our country over to the Right, either way, she is a RIGHT Winger...

26. No more free media for Hillary.....

Hillary and her supporters need more debates because they are BROKE!

They can't match obama on media...

Why should he help Hillary by participating in "debates" that are nothing more than a venue for slime attacks on him by Hillary?

He shouldn't give her the time of day... she's irrelevant at this point.

Focus on McCain.

Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 07:33 AM by Xap
Keep taking wild stabs at everything real and imagined until you hit something that might do some damage (with lots of help from the corporate media).

Why would anybody subject himself to that kind of malicious bullshit?
