Is it me or do the talking heads seemed OFFENDED that Rev. Wright is speaking up in his defense?
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 07:29 AM by wndycty
As a Black man my take may be different, but watching the press coverage this morning its as if the MSM is saying:

"How dare that Ni#$er try to get out of the box that we put that Ni#$er in."

It really pissed me off. The talking heads spent the better part of the last month DEFINING him by the video clips, they camped out, staked out Trinity they wanted comment, now they are BOTHERED AND HYSTERICAL about him speaking out.

Last night on HARDBALL Chris Matthews asked why Wright is even speaking (I would love to know how many times his producers have reached out to Trinity or Wright for comment).

BEFORE the interview was taped but after it had been announced, many in the media started speculating about how this interview would hurt Obama, shouldn't this have been a sign? Not for Obama or Wright, but for the public to understand that there is absolutely no way the media would spin it any other way than to say how bad it would be for Obama.

Like well over 99.9% of America I have not seen the entire interview and if I choose not watch it (as most of American will choose not to do) I will be left thinking what the talking heads want me to think. I will be watching tonight and making up my own mind about Rev. Wright and the impact this interview will have on Obama.

3. That is our media for you. I am
offended that they are offended. It seems they absolutely must have something to harp on. And this episode has had legs because of the media. Their goal is to dumb down America and they seem to be doing a pretty good job. I have quit looking at any of the programs. It turns me off. The Wright "affair" should never have gotten the attention it has. Once Sen. Obama repudiated what had been said, that should have been the end. One day Obama is the bad boy; next day Sen. Clinton is the bad girl. The media are our true enemy. Those talking heads must be making the big bucks by trashing everyone else.

4. I feel the same way
I did watch the entire sermons and it's shameful how the media presented this man. I do feel they are upset because he didn't stay in his place and is choosing to speak out now. I feel that they think they put him in his place and marginalized him and they expected him to stay there.

I was listening to Campbell Brown and she still couldn't get past the fact that he has the nerve to point out this country's sins.

The way it appears to me is that other people can point out the sins of this country but they have a problem when this man does the same thing.

28. even David Gergen,
who is usually a moderate voice was saying that this can only hurt Obama. Like Wright didn't check with Obama first? Come on.
I believe ihis interview is part of a strategic plan to get the truth out before the General. If people get to see Rev. Wright as a nice, sane, Christian human being it will poke wholes in the myth the media has spun.

5. I saw the first few minutes of Abrams last night and it sounded like
he was accusing Wright of throwing Obama under the bus. Seemed indignant that Wright referred to Obama as a politician who did what he had to do. I turned it off after that.

I don't bother watching any of the other bobble head eggspurts. They've proven again and again that they are clueless.

And I'm furious with m$nbc for continuing to employ Joe "dead intern" Scarborough and Pat Buchanan. Neither of them should be given a mic that reaches a nationwide audience.

11. Yesterday Whoopi said to Elizabeth on THE VIEW "its a very white way to look at it"
And when Elizabeth said "let me take off my white goggles." Sheri screamed "You can't!"

It just goes to show we all look at things differently. Sheri could have gone a step further and said "I can't take off my Black goggles, we all have goggles and we need to understand how they impact our respective world views."

15. Media losing control?
I've gotten the sick feeling over the last couple of weeks that the networks have been controlling this primary ever since it became clear that Obama had a chance. They were in his corner since Iowa, propping him up, loving him, and pronouncing him the eventual nominee....but JUST as it was getting close to Obama actually knocking Hillary out...the media turned on Obama, using things like Wright, Bitter, and Ayers.... Now I'm not saying that the media wants Clinton to win...or Obama for that matter...all they care about, is that the longer this goes on, the more they get to talk about it. This primary has gone almost perfectly for them. You can't script it any better. Rev. Wright coming out to set things straight...if that's indeed what happens..because I don't know...but Wright doing this could end it....EITHER WAY. He could either destroy Obama...OR...and this is what I'm hoping for...he could make everything alWright! Stay tuned....but not to MSNBC that's for sure! :silly:

it's the war

it's the war voting candidates

it's the war profiteers

it's the editorial control of war profiteers that also own media

toss in energy transnationals and megapharms for good measure

why does it surprise people?... why do they look to the MSM for anything more than to find out what the MIC is feeding the mushrooms THIS week?

why is the msm the most cited media source on DU?

What IS SURPRISING, is how well Obama is doing despite being deanscreamed, moonbeamed and swiftboated...

you can bet by 2012 the internet will belong to the likes of comcast

Bill Moyers and Reverend Jeremiah Wright. It should be interesting and informative. I wonder if Moyers knows Wright? After all, Bill was LBJ's press Secretary at the same time the president had that hernia/polyp surgery.

Because the more we get to see him the less the M$M will be able to depict him as the scary black dude. I watched video clips of the sermons with his comments in context, and agreed with what he said.

There was a poster here trying to get Obama supporters to sign some petition to "make" Obama denounce Wright because Wright was going on Bill Moyers. I was happy to see DUers didn't fall for it. I say the more exposure we get to the real Rev Wright, the better off Obama will be.

23. That's sure how it plays to me too..
Abrams show was the same. It's especially disgusting that they have the one black guy, who is a talking head "preacher" sitting there, with his holier-than-thou attitude, when they know full well that it was taken out of context, agreeing with the "white" boys in all their false indignation. I guess he missed that part of his bible about casting the first stone, in all his glorious perfection. The only one speaking any common sense was Lawrence O'Donnell, unfortunately he'll continue to be drowned out by these loudmouths with ego problems. Yet we don't have clips rolling over and over of Hagee calling the catholic church the great whore. I wonder with the Pope's recent visit why this wasn't parsed over and over, and how this might lose John McCain the catholic vote. But no, we have to worry how this will play to the racist white boys who always vote republican any freakin' way. It's more and more frustrating when they constantly hold him to a different standard. Anybody who agrees or advocates this is a sad, sad excuse of a person.

Joe "dead-intern" Scarface shouldn't even be a free man, let alone have his own show. He's disgusting in every sense of the word. Ditto the bigot Buchanan.

The parts I saw of the interview that are out so far show him to be a reasonable, intelligent man which doesn't play into their narrative of scary and crazy, but that doesn't mean they won't keep trying. Every time they say his name they play the clip, I guess hoping it'll sink in and offend as many people as possible. Still, I say good for him, and the Obama camp will have to deal with it however they see it best. But I think he had a right, and sort of an obligation to speak out, not only for himself but for his congregation. These "pundits" don't understand or maybe they do, that they're just reinforcing that anger that many feel is justified in the man, especially when they play this out of context over and over, and the man and the church are targets of violent threats. It's all so disgusting and more people with a shred of decency should be taking this issue head on.

Then all of these so-called news channels should integrate more black people on all of these shows, in positions that matter such as anchors and hosts instead of these ignorant airheads they seem to be hiring lately in their attempts to compete with the Fox propoganda channel cheerleaders (case in point, MSNBC dingbat just said regarding the food shortages/prices: "I guess it's a good time for people to go on a diet"). When they begin doing that, we might see real change in this country on the issue of race. Then people might wake up to the fact that the problems in our society are not really about race, but about class.

32. I don't blame you..
it's offensive to me and I'm a white chick. I don't know why more, allegedly intelligent people cannot see this for what it is, and their silence on the issue is deafening. I do see a small glimmer of hope, the North Carolina stations for example who are refusing to run the ad about him. They should be commended for that and maybe more stations would start to do the same. Even slimy McCain, however disingenuous called them on it, and once again, Senator Clinton missed a golden opportunity to redeem herself somewhat if she'd followed suit, choosing decency over political expediency. Sad really.

But you know what, no matter how this plays out, I think it has forced things to the surface in a profound way, forcing us to face it and hopefully do something about it. We cannot deny that all of this mess has made people, myself included, examine our own prejudices and begin to change the way we see people. I have learned lots of things that I wasn't aware of about civil rights. Particularly The Kerner Commission Report, because it was before my time. The timing seemed to fall in place too with the David Wilson documentary. So maybe it's fate, karma, luck or whatever that all of these things are putting racism on the front burner again, and after the fallout we'll be the better for it.

If it had been a white preacher giving those sermons... the media would not care. Hell, he could be a racist homophobic freak like Hagee - and the media would smile and wave.

But instead it's a black man getting uppity and talking about social justice, instead of simply leading an endless chorus of "Swing low, sweet chariot" like a good black preacher oughtta. Well, we can't have that, so we have to destroy him!
