I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. However, we shouldn't be blinded by our own informed views.

On TV, when he's not under any pressure, McCain comes across quite well -- he looks like a reasonable, sometimes humorous, very avuncular guy. If the corporate media runs interference for him, few people may come to share our view. That's my biggest fear.

When I do watch these people on TV, which is rare, I try to watch through the eyes of the uninformed people who are viewing the same thing. I pretend I'm one of my relatives who are particularly uninformed. What I see is McCain coming across very well. It's like Barbara Bush. Many many people thinks she's a jolly old lady, instead of the vicious venomous bitch she really is.

Unless the Dems can put McCain under some real pressure to make him unmask, or if the MSM stops running interference for him, few people are going to see the side of him that we see.

When he appears on The Daily Show, he seems fine. Kinda funny. Not too extreme.

I used to think of him as a maverick, rebel, and somewhat tolerable Republican.

Until he sold out and went to Falwell and begged forgiveness of the Christian right That's when I saw him for the shallow hate-filled motherfucker that he really is.

The problem as I see it, is he has that "war hero" label that flag-waving, military-worshipping fools will lap up.

There has to be pressure applied, but it can't be too vile, or it can turn on us. He is still respected by most Americans because of his POW tragedy. I think Obama is extremely talented at making the point he wants to make diplomatically against his opponent, while not ruffling the electorates feathers.

Hillary, OTOH, not so skilled in that area.

We've got to do our homework on him & present ads that actually expose his negatives, while not totally trashing the man.

It will be like walking a tight-rope.
