We have heard so much about the infamous Commander in Chief threshold and whether or not various candidates meet it. Perhaps it is time to discuss the CEO in Chief threshold. As Paul Begala taught us all; it is about "the economy stupid". Bill Clinton may very well have secured his election as the 42nd President of the United States of America by his campaign slogan of "focusing like a laser beam on the economy". Very few people would actually argue that the proverbial bread and butter kitchen table issues are not the most important factor in who people choose to vote for.
Hillary Clinton has a bit of problem when she tries to pass this threshold. This problem would be that she fails at it; miserably. She started this campaign years ago ammassing one of the largest primary candidate warchests in political history. Her husband had helped her build one of the strongest political machines in recent memory. She hired what were considered the "best of the best"; Mark Penn a four million dollar campaign manager as well as Terry Mcauliffe lauded as one of the nations top fund raisers. She started with a juggernaut of financial support behind her and squandered it. All of it. She took an easy "March to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave." and bankrupted it. She proved herself utterly inept at the very basics of financial management.
Barack Obama on the other hand; has done exactly the opposite. He started out as long shot candidate and built up one of the largest networks of contributors in recent history. He surrounded himself with campaign managers that showed clear vision in fiscal restraint and responsibility. He spent money wisely, spending only exactly what was needed to achieve his decided goals. He raised as much money as Hillary but managed it so well that he still has tens of millions of dollars left in his campaign funds. Barack has not just passed the threshold; he has redefined it and set the bar higher.
If our economy is our most important issue, why would anyone in their right mind choose the candidate that bankrupted a monetary juggernaut over the one who has shown stunning management skills?
