Poll question: Which candidate do YOU find more likable?
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 11:34 AM by senseandsensibility
There is no right or wrong answer to this one. It's obviously subjective. But I just thought it might be interesting to compare DUers' impressions to those of the general public. Also, whether we like it or not, likability has some connection to electability. We can't completely ignore it as a factor.

Feel free to explain your vote without bashing the other candidate, if possible.:)

1. Prefer all of our original 8 to any of their original 13-14.

7. We shall see.
I still have faith in DUers to defend their candidate without slamming the other. Then again, I still think we'll win 2008.:)

10. Just wait
When one gives in, he or she will throw full support behind the other,
and it'll be a love fest that'll make McCain humping Bush in 2004 seem
like a get-acquainted dance at a Madrassa.

It may or may not be enough to heal the wounds, and it may or may not
be sincere, but it'll happen, live and in color. You heard it here first.

6. Although liking won't help
at this point, it will have to be who is more electable, to me.

11. No, the general public does not find Hillary
as unlikable as the Obama supporters here at DU. I could have told you that without doing a poll.

33. they are both adequately qualified
I guess I should have said "more" qualified

Both are smart, seem to have generally the right attitude toward ideals I consider important. Both would do the job "just fine."

Were it not for our idiotic "toxic" system, though, we would have selected Gore by acclamation a long time ago. And he is head and shoulders above either of them when it comes to "qualified." So is Biden.

Ah well...

c'est la vie

23. I firmly believe they are BOTH qualified...
I think this primary season of 2008 is an embarassment of richs:

1) Edwards

2) Obama

3) Clinton

I love all three of them.

20. Aside from her politic tactics and lapses in accuracy
at a gut level - she annoys me.

Reminds me of a prissy school teacher who thought she was funny, but wasn't. Thought she was bright than the average bear, but wasn't.

Thought she was popular, isn't.

Thought she had a chance in winning, doesn't.

She's completely out of touch with reality - and seems alittle Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford sometimes with those raised eyebrows - like she's insane.

Not the image I want to see in my President.

We've had eight years of a dancing bear - why do we need a wild hyena to replace him?

24. Other:
They both score "zero" on my likability meter.

I liked Biden, although I disagreed with him on several issues.

The same for Richardson.

I found Edwards likable, even though I disagreed with him all the way through November of '04.

I more than like DK.

I like Cindy Sheehan.

I like Cynthia McKinney.

I like Shirley Golub.

I like Al Gore; I always have, even though he's more centrist than I.

I find that I like a huge, eclectic variety of people.

Obama and Clinton are not a part of that mix.

This woman thinks for herself.

And that is not a sermon, merely a statement of fact.

I'd find your likeability vote for Clinton more credible if it was accompanied by a reason to like her.

27. I used to be a whitewater raft guide...
doing four day, three night camp trips on the Rogue River in southern Oregon.

I'd enjoy having either of them on a trip.

Senator Obama would be more likely to do goofy things and would jump in to take care of tough chores like firewood gathering and getting fresh water from a hard to reach spring. I figure he's show up at the put in with his bag already packed with exactly the right stuff. He'd probably be a demon at river games like hunkerhousen.

Senator Clinton would have her own map and guidebook for the river, would have read Zane Gray's story about the Rogue, would organize everybody on the trip to hike back up Solitude Riffle and swim down on life jackets and would probably bring her own first aid kit adequate to perform open heart surgery.

Niether of them would know a damn thing about rigging a boat and they'd both be terrible in a paddle boat crew, unless they were front left in the stroke position :-).

He also used very similar language during his 1850 campaign when speaking before workers. Feel free to use it. The more exposure the better! I have to admit to knowing no Latin, so I need a translation for your sig line, I'm afraid.

Another DU'er uses

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Although I think the idiom for 'woodchuck' is questionable. :-)

38. That was likable
about him. And Richardson was also very likable. I think I left all of them out because they have no chance of winning now. Between Obama and Clinton, we may need to consider likability as just one of the factors necessary to win the General. I have to admit that I'm a little surprised by the results so far.
