I'm pyched!!! Just left my Oregon county's (Malheur) Democratic Party meeting...
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 07:43 PM by Roxy66
I live in Malheur County, in far Eastern Oregon, and just came home from the first meeting in 4 yrs for the Dems. Lets just say there are 6,000 Repugs, 3,000 Dems, and 2,000 independents in this County...and out of the 3,000 dems, most are afraid to admit so. This is the first time I can remember when we had an actual meeting...that was productive. My 14 yr old daughter came with me, and the Democratic State Chair, Meredith Wood Smith had an extended conversation with her about collaborating together to organize kids at the local college and high school. My daughter was so excited to be there and I was so proud. Meridith asked me to contact both campaigns to encourage them to utilize the Boise,Idaho media market, since they are the only source of news that is available to the entire east side of Oregon. Lets just say it's very red over here. I hope they have the sense to visit these small communities over here.....people would be so excited. I live in Ontario, Oregon, and we have a facility here that would be perfect.... The Four Rivers Cultural Center. I can't wait to actually count this year!!

2. Thanks for the information
I'm pleased that your young teenage daughter (14 y.o.) is interested in the political system. Our children deserve better leaders than many we must tolerate now.

Best Wishes to you and yours! :hi:

4. Write the Obama campaign and ask
them to do that! Happy for all the enthusiasm around there in Eastern Oregon for the Primary.

10. The sad thing is...We can't even get the "Oregonian" over here anymore.
It's not distributed in most of the Eastern half of the state anymore.

6. Eastern Oregon is a tough nut to crack for Dems...
Here in Klamath Falls(Klamath Co)we have a lot of Republicans--the old fashioned kind--who are so upset with Bush that don't know what to do.

Voter's pamphlets just arrived yesterday here.

7. If you can carry Malheur county maybe we've got a shot in Wyoming, too!
That's great news! Now we just need Lake and Harney and you'll have about half the area of Oregon and about 2% of the population! I'm pretty certain we'll carry Teton County, WY, but the rest of the state is going to be a challenge.

9. Hello from Boise, Roxy!
I haven't been over to Ontario since the fish pond tour a few years ago. I think Oregon is going to mark the end of the primary battle, assuming North Carolina and Indiana haven't already. Good luck! :hi:

13. Thanks for your post. And don't discount contacting the Obama campaign ...
... about getting them to your neck of the woods. It may not happen, since the circumstances aren't the same, but someone posted prior to the PA vote that they were able to get Obama to hit a particular neighborhood by feeding the request to the campaign. (I'll see if I can find the link, but am not hopeful.)

14. Ah, here it is. Just took a few moments and the right search term and options.

It's actually a DU post referring a DailyKos thread, describing a canvasser's experience. But maybe you and your daughter will gain some (additional) inspiration from it. (Not that you're in need of any!)
