Obama Will "Take Fox On" In Appearance This Sunday ... NOT!!!
He was gonna show how "tough he really is"

The senior Obama adviser insists that Obama is under no illusions about Fox and what it represents, and that this isn't about courtship at all, and vows a confrontational approach on Sunday.

Here is what the adviser IM-ed me about this today:

We are clear-eyed about Fox’'s role in the dissemination and amplification of Republican talking points this election. They have been the tip of the spear when it comes to repeatedly broadcasting some of the most specious of rumors about Obama. He is going on their Sunday show to take Fox on, not because we have any illusion about their motives or politics in this election.

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/04/senior_obama_adviser_obama_wil.php

So how "confrontational" was Obama with Fox news that has been "the tip of the spear...broadcasting the most specious rumors about Obama"?

FAIL

Obama Doesn't "Take Fox On," After All

The Fox News Sunday interview is over. And Obama didn't take on Fox at all in any meaningful sense.

On Friday, a senior Obama adviser responded to criticism of his decision to go on Fox with a bunch of tough talk, saying that Obama knew full well that Fox has been at the forefront of spreading "the most specious of rumors" (i.e., lies) about Obama and vowing that he would "take Fox on."

Well, it didn't happen. Obama definitely pushed back hard on some of Chris Wallace's questions, but at no point did he draw attention to Fox's spreading of lies about him or critique the network in a general sense.

Obama had a perfect opening to do this, too. Wallace pressed him repeatedly about Jeremiah Wright and the bogus "flag pin" nonsense -- a perfect set-up for Obama to point out that Fox had obsessed about both these issues to an obscene degree and that Fox had been at the forefront of spreading the Obama-is-a-Muslim lies.

To be clear, Obama wasn't obliged to go after Fox. But a senior adviser said Obama would, as a way of quieting criticism of him. And he didn't.

So he really blew the best chance ever to call BS, instead by not taking them on he gives them credibility. What a joke.

31. I was expecting him to be 'confrontational' as his campaign said
so I was disappointed. Had they not built up the 'show them how tough he is' hype it would not have disappointing, it would have been better.

Do you not see how they do a disservice to themselves by hyping it erroneously?

Why is your definition of "taking them on" limited to shouting and name-calling?

Why isn't rationally discussing issues in a way that could actually sway their viewers not "taking them on"?

Why is rallying their base to vote against you a better approach?

Why would it serve him better to play "gotcha" with Fox News when he could hit them where it really hurts, their viewership? Why should he go on there, yell and scream, and create soundbites for them to play over and over again and rile up the truly ignorant among their base?

How would that help him and Democrats in general?
