He is one of those whitey tighteys who is not racist, considering I am his DIL. He tells me that the beat in Florida is awesome for Hillary, and that she is LOVED on the Island, and in West palm where he hangs out. I think that he, and many of his friends might have a crush on her, but we will take it!!

63. Personally, I don't think that is anything to celebrate
Of course I don't wish to lose the election in November, but neither do I think it would be good to win by going into the election on a platform that's pretty out of line with basic Democratic principles. I mean, if Hillary were the nominee I would not feel good watching her and McCain compete to see who's going to drop the biggest bomb on Iran.

49. She didn't win it, but WHO ELSE proposed it at the time? Now everyone's on the health care bandwagon
None of the BO believers who put this forth as a 'bad' for Hill remember that Hillary was a PIONEER in just proposing it, then trying to push for health care all those years ago, when the odds against it were much greater than they are now, when such a forward-looking idea was attacked by all sides.

Hillary LEARNED from that experience. She's become more realistic about legislation since then, and now offers universal coverage health plan that has a better chance of becoming a reality.

52. Yeah, lost health care fight because she was not as knowledgeable about
politics and legislation then. 'Cause it's so bad that she DARED to propose that plan ALL THOSE YEARS AGO. How stupid is that.

As for 'the primaries'? She's winning the genuine primaries, with Democrats actually choosing the Dem candidate. BO 'fights smart' in the caucuses, especially, by registering Repubs and Indies as 'Dems-for-a-day', then giving them forms to register back as a GOP / Indy.

That's real smart. Real dishonest tactics just to get votes to win the Dem nom.

And more about 'fighting smart' - if BO can't handle debates effectively and complains about the moderators - is that 'fighting smart', too? Will he be able to choose which issues, problems he wants to deal with as president as well? You have to know how to handle whatever comes your way, and the questions in the debates - whatever they are - test the candidates' ability to do that.

So why is he declining Hill's invite to debate without moderators - if he complained about the moderators the last time?

And don't give me the usual arguments of 'too many debates already' (only four between just the two of them), 'Hill wants more free air time' (he'll get air time, too), blah, blah.

71. You should ask Hillary, shouldn't you?

Will she be defending workers against the greed of the elite or will she keep taking money from the elite or -- what is her plan?

78. You really don't get it, do you?
You've a choice between someone with roots in the community and someone who does everything she can to avoid those roots.

Good luck with that.

86. Weak at best, shows he used it as a political platform
from your link:
After a transient youth and an earnest search for identity, Obama also found a home--a community with which he continued relationships, a church and a political identity. He honed his talent for listening, learned pragmatic strategy, practiced bringing varied people together and developed a faith in ordinary citizens that still influences his campaign message. He discovered the importance of personal storytelling in politics (and wrote short stories that refined his style).

...

--Obama and DCP protected community interests regarding landfills and helped win employment training services, playgrounds, after-school programs, school reforms and other public amenities.

One day a resident at Altgeld Gardens, a geographically isolated public housing project surrounded by waste sites, brought a notice about planned removal of asbestos from the project manager's office. Obama organized the community to find out if there was asbestos in their apartments. They persisted as officials lied and delayed, then took a bus--with far fewer people than Obama had anticipated--to challenge authorities downtown. Ultimately, the city was forced to test all the apartments and eventually begin cleaning them up.

...

But Obama grew restless and eventually went to Harvard Law School. "He said you can only go so far in organizing. You help people get some solutions, but it's never as big as wiping away problems," says Michael Evans, a DCP organizer after Obama left. "It wasn't end-all. He wanted to be part of the end-all, to get things done." But Obama kept his ties to DCP and worked out of its office when he ran a drive that registered 150,000 new voters in 1992 and became the springboard for his own grassroots campaign for Illinois State Senate.

81. I grew up in Florida. Considering its conservative nature, I'm not surprised they like her.

It's one of our biggest Democratic strongholds in the country.

88. Oy, the Breakers.
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 06:02 PM by skypuddle
I worked streaming audio for a Bear Stearns investors conference held at the Breakers a few years back.

I have never felt more uncomfortable in a place in my entire life. Those people live in such luxury that they might as well be a different species than we lowly peons. My friend Jose, who was working the streaming audio with me, was repeatedly asked demeaning questions by guests who assumed that he was "the help" based on nothing more than his brown skin. For crying out loud, he was wearing a shirt and tie, so I can't think of any other reason why they'd assume that he would know what time a particular restaurant in the hotel closed.

:eyes:

Oh, and I especially love how when Palm Beach was smacked down by a court for trying to make their city a "private enclave", the rich assholes got their way by eliminating all of the public parking in the city. Pretentious fucks...

92. it sounds as if finally, you've come across some rational investors
who aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot by supporting Republicans if we nominate Clinton. Most investors did much better during the Clinton years than they have since then. The Clinton years were good for a lot of people. There is also evidence that over the past 60 years or so, the stock market did better during Dem. admins. in general.

96. Ugh, how can you deal with those rich assholes?
I've heard of marrying into money, but that kind of money is, um, stratospheric.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the potential oligarchs support a Democrat. It would be a lot better if they were behind Obama, but at least they aren't championing McSame, I suppose.
