a news story by playing snippets of a sermon which were played out of context.

CNN did a courageous thing by playing the entire event.

The media gave a platform to the Republican haters to spew their twisted views on everything. Wright deserved a platform so all could hear his message.

The media has attacked the Black church in America and they expected the Black Church to sit back and take their crap. But again as Rev. Wright explained it's about all of the churches in America and even those that are Atheists. Since * has been in office it has been about the NeoCon church and what they want to force down American's throats.

You should, if you're willing. The whole theme is about what you're saying: different is not deficient.

That's what I'm saying here. I've heard the odd cuts and bits from his earlier speeches. And I can see why people might take some of them as offensive. But then I've heard and read those cuts and bits in context of the entire speech, and they're suddenly in a whole different light. Not a separatist light, not a dividing lines light, but one of justice, and the need to move forward together.

Differences are good. Differences are what make us all unique and interesting, and what make life rich. It's when we use them to build dividing lines between us and them, when we create "the other"... that's where the problem starts.

The honest answer to your last question is that I'm probably more willing to listen to someone deliniate in sort of broad strokes the differences between cultures when that someone comes from a traditionally minority population. I might find the broad strokes he's using a bit cringe-worthy if he were a white guy. Because I think those of us on the more progressive side have conditioned ourselves to be careful there - are these illustrations meant to illuminate or degradate? Is it humor or prejudice we're hearing? The history leads me to be instinctively more cautious there.
