I hope the Obama campaign didn't get Wright to go on this media blitz
If they did, it was a very bad strategy... It's everywhere (in a negative way) in the MSM today.

Please, don't consider this a judgment of Wright. That's not what I mean at all.

The MSM is just spinning it in a particular fashion and it's not good for someone who is MOST likely to be the nominee of the party.

Has there been any comment on this by the Obama campaign?

Was this their idea?

Things are really bad today.

13. That's politics
Same goes for DU. The Obama camp will pile all over Hillary, and the Hillary camp will pile all over Obama. Takes tough skin to be in this business.

Wright does Obama no good by making these appearances... only serves to rile up the Hillary folk against him... and as for those of us who have no dog in this race, there's some interesting talk if you look for it. I for one like Wright a whole lot more than I do Obama.

22. I like Wright
More than I do Obama, actually. People are going to read far too much into all this, and it's for this reason I think Wright should have zipped it. Wright is so right! I've been saying it here for years... MLK's image has been sterilized and most people really don't remember all the good work he did for the poor and the weak, they chose to remember only the tip of the iceberg and I think that sucks out loud. Wright is also right about Israel/Palestine, and I whole-heartedly agree with his TRUE CHRISTIAN beliefs in this regard, which are polar opposite of Obama's. This is only a very small part of my thoughts on this man, but I encourage everyone to watch the repeats of his interview with Moyers. Stunning and powerful, and very, very Christ-like. I love a man who walks the talk, they are so few and so precious! I would probably step outside my self-imposed Agnostic shroud if I were to ever hear him preach in person.

Wright is an awesome man. He makes Obama look so-so by comparison.

Whether Obama likes it or not. The barn door has been left open and the horse has already galloped off... there's no putting him back in the barn now. Too late.

I really like Wright, but if I were Obama, I'd tell him to keep it zipped.

31. The American people FIRST need to vote out the thugs in Washington
Unfortunately, Wright could make that less likely.

Why? Hell, yeah, we still have racism in this country.

Hell, yeah, we have folks who aren't really racists but are stuck on stupid.

I still think the more appropriate time for this discussion is after Obama is PRESIDENT.

43. Don't believe there's racism, huh?
:sarcasm:

People are racists to varying degrees - hopefully lesser degrees, but it's still there. Probably a lot of folks voting for Obama who still harbor ingrained racial thoughts or stereotypes even though they don't realize it. Someone like Wright could easily turn some of them away, imo.

I'm an Obama supporter. I'd like him to WIN - not have to deal with Wright's statements.

The time to deal with that is after he's WON.

19. NYT: Obama campaign "furious" over Wright PR tour
"Our colleague Jeff Zeleny tells us that associates of Mr. Obama said privately that his campaign was furious at Mr. Wright’s decision to step forward so publicly, but that they were unable to do anything to control this. They added, however, that the pastor’s actions prove that he and Mr. Obama are not that close, otherwise why would Mr. Wright do this now?"

26. i think that is actually going to be the eventual 'verdict'...
seriously...watching the feeding frenzy this morning, i was thinking two things along these lines: 1) this might actually just garner some sympathy for Obama, as most people (as reflected even here) will probably come away thinking "daaaamn, that guy is seriously trying to fuck up Obama's chances!" and 2) "wow...if Wright's willing to do this to Obama, i guess they really AREN'T that close!"

34. It's a media blind alley at this point... the narrative on Wright/Obama has been told
So, should Obama defend Wright? that would just confirm the negative narrative

Should Obama throw Wright under the bus? he seems to have rejected that option

Obama is truly stuck on this issue...

It has the exact same FORM as the Swiftboat attack on Kerry. Kerry didn't respond strongly for the exact same reasons.

As I know you are aware, all of this story originated with FOX... FOX is controlling the news agenda in the election cycle at this point and the rest are following the lead.

The media is the enemy in this fight... along with McCain et al.

37. It's hardball and you know it... there is a full-court press on all the delegates right now
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 01:05 PM by JCMach1
Donna Brazile, yesterday, was back onto the 'There Will be Blood' metaphor to scare Super Delegates.

Regardless of which side you are for, the SD's are majorly getting hammered from ALL sides at this point.

Hillary, barring a meltdown, most likely will not be the nominee. However, when the media metastasizes a story the way it is at the moment the Obama campaign takes a step towards that melt down.

At this point, I am not willing to say that's a good thing.

what planet the people on this board live on. I have read two newspapers this morning and watched two news shows. Not a mention of Wright anywhere.

Wright is not on a "blitz." He made one appearance on Moyers, and did one speech, no doubt booked months in advance, for the NAACP. What is he supposed to do, go into hiding while the MSM defames him and his church?
