Rev. Wright is simply the right's permission slip to hate Obama for his race.
It doesn't matter what he does or says from now on. It doesn't matter how right or wrong it is that he was taken out of context. It doesn't matter how good he looks from here on out.

The only important thing is that the Republican base now has permission to hate Obama's blackness without giving that as the reason for their hatred. Now they can safely tell themselves that, they're not racist, they hate Obama because he's too radical and unpatriotic.

The right has been looking for a reason to voice their hatred of Obama since he came out on the scene. The problem is that Obama has run a nearly flawless campaign in that sense, and has given them nothing to work with.

Rev. Wright is simply a beard in this case, so to speak. Racists can point to him to validate their distrust of someone with African genes at the highest levels of government.

It doesn't matter what the reality is from this point on. All we need to know is, the racist voting bloc can now list a concrete reason why they are against Obama, and make it sound like it's not directly tied to race. Mission Accomplished, FOX.

1. Good for them

And we have the right to call them neonazis, kkk, bigots, murderers, rapists, unAmerican, genocidal monsters... among other things.

2. Truth be told, I suspect the racist voting bloc didn't really need a "valid" reason anyway
sadly, there's a whole segment of our population who will vote against Obama simply because of his color, regardless of whether it is done consciously or not.

However, it is my enduring hope that with this election we will have the opportunity to outnumber those voters.

Keep the faith. Worrying about what hasn't happened yet does not serve us.

3. Dead on. My very racist father in law keeps saying....

"it's not because he's a nigger, it's because of his pastor!"

Rev Wright gives Republicans the ability to say, with a straight face, that they are voting against Obama for a reason OTHER than his race.

But we know better.

6. I keep hearing the same thing, almost verbatim.
Which tells me that
A) It worked, and it's still working
B) it's really not a matter of Wright's PR skills at this point.
C) If it wasn't going to be this, it would've been something else
D) Our voting public still mostly follows the news as tabloid, and we can't assume they will follow up on this story the way we in this community would

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of these tactics. They will keep trying to find thinly veiled ways to "blacken up" Obama that keeps the voters safe from seeing themselves as overt racists.

Let's be ready for this.

9. It isn't exactly a particularly "information based" community, is it?
All they know is teams.

For a while they thought that maybe Obama was starting to look like someone who could play on their team.

Now they've been reminded, "Everything is safe. The teams are drawn just as you always thought. Obama is on 'their' team, not yours."

11. If it wasn't this, it would be something else. It speaks well for Obama that all they've got is
guilt by association. I think his message will triumph in the end, and it bodes well that all they've got to go on right now is guilt by association.

I think that once Obama is able to pivot and face McCain one on one, he can control the message better. Right now, he's getting it from two angles, and all he can do is ride it out. He still needs to find a way to control the message, and inject the issues back into the headlines.

In my opinion though, I think we might be reading too much into what Wright says from here on out as if it will make much of a difference. All this is is the right's best excuse for hating Obama that's as close to being race based, but isn't, that they can find.

12. Clinton is causing division in the world with her obliterate comment and
all MSM can do is report on some Reverend giving a speech and claim it is hurting the ears of Obama. Or is that now even the point of MSM? How could it be if they keep showing and talking about this? Sounds hypocritical if you ask me. But I wouldn't agree with this to begin with on the hurting ears part anyway. Are people falling for this association shit?
