Don't you guys realize the media has been attacking mercilessly
whoever is our frontrunner? When Hillary was the frontrunner, they went against her brutally. Now Obama is in the lead, and they are trying to destroy him.

Who wins? Their candidate, McCain. It's simple and frightening.

1. Yes. I realized that when they turned on Obama.
I can't believe I was really that stupid to think that the media was on "our" side. The only side they are on is McCain's and they are desperate.

2. That's why Hillary and Obama must become more than
individuals they must join forces and destroy McCain.

Hillary better stay away from jumping on the Rev Wright, what little black vote she has will dissapear like the Antartica ice.

15. I Had No Idea Racists
were so prevalent in the democratic party. Maybe because I live in Colorado where the AA population is tiny. You saw this coming, that's interesting! The Clinton's saw it too, they knew Wright would blow up in his face and race ridden PA would expose itself.

18. Excuse me? Are you calling me a racist?
The post I responded to had to do with the media turning on Obama. Yeah, a lot of us "out of the daze" saw this coming.

How do you extrapolate your response from what was said here, by me and the poster to whom I repllied.

And again, are you calling me racist?

but much to my dismay, there are racists in the democratic party - I was stupid to think otherwise.

Media on a feeding frenzy about Rev. Wright - have you ever seen them go after one of those crazy white pastors with such vigor?

21. ok. good. thanks. question -
yeah, the media will feast on whatever the public is focused on - most times they focus the public upon a given topic and then feast on the response. Not a big fan of the media at this point, for several reasons. I understand your point.

But I am compelled to take this one step further.

Do you think it racist to find some of Reverend Wright's sermons offensive. I speak particularly not about the "GD America" sermon, but the one in which he repeatedly invokes Hillary as the symbol of African American oppression by the ruling elite, who are white? If you haven't seen it, I can provide a link.

30.  When Assistant to Pope Told His Holiness
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 10:14 PM by otohara
America has invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq? What did the Pope say?
God damn America.

I'm not black, so I don't think I'm in the position to judge a black pastor speaking to his black congregation in terms that make us queasy. Wright is right in many of his remarks - I don't know what it's like to grow up black, but I do know what it's like to grow up with a disability and there are drawbacks, drawbacks able bodied people can't comprehend. Discrimination, snarky remarks from kids and adults, rejection, and sad but true, abuse.

I've heard the sound bytes a million times, but when I read the entire context and consider that this is a black pastor in his black church, to them he speaks of their own experiences. Was it a mistake to use Hill & Bill as the example? When he's talking about the campaign how could he not? So in retrospect, Wright had no business talking about the campaign in church in the first place. Wasn't this his last sermon at Trinity? If so, he went out with a bang heard round the world. Sadly after today's media frenzy - I fear the democratic party will be so divided come August, we will surely lose in November.

Here's a few of the sound-bytes you speak of:

"Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain't! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty."

Wright in context:

“There is a man here who can take this country in a new direction. ‘But he’s a Black man.’ There is a man here who is empowered by hope to usher in an era of change in a country that is in desperate need of a change. ‘But he ain’t Black enough.’ There is a man here who can get Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and persons of no faith to sit down at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood and talk about our common humanity and our common future. ‘But I ain’t gonna vote for him ’cause I don’t want to waste my vote.’ ‘But Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us.’ No he ain’t. Bill did us just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.”

Sound byte:

"Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people," "Hillary would never know that. "Hillary ain't never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person."

Context:

“It came to me within the past few weeks y’all, why so many folk are hating on Barrack Obama. He doesn’t fit the model. He ain’t white. He ain’t rich. And he ain’t privileged.” Our most recent presidents were white, rich, and privileged.
“Hillary never had a cab wiz past her and not pick her up because her skin was the wrong color. Hillary never had to worry about being pulled over in her car as a black man driving in the wrong .”
I doubt that she ever had a cab pass her by or got pulled over because she's white.
“Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger.” Barack sure has. “Hillary has never had her people defined as a non-person.” Black slaves were considered three-fifths of a person.
“Hillary ain’t had to work twice as hard just to get accepted by the rich white folk who run everything or to get a passing grade when you know you are smarter than that C student sitting in the White House.”

31. Thank you for engaging me in a civl debate. We do, however, disagree.
I do not see how the context excuses the attacks, which is what I saw them as, and still do.

If you look at the full context, he went down centuries of oppression of blacks by whites. He ended with Barack and Hillary. He seems to be saying, to a joyous congregation, that Hillary should be discounted, if not hated, because she is white. He seemed to be holding her up as a continuing symbol of oppression. I'm sorry, it is very clear to me. I don't know how one can watch that sermon and not come away with the same take.

And Obama did say, belatedly, that he would have walked out on the Reverend had he been there for the "controversial" sermons. What did he find offensive?

Having seen what I have seen, I want no part of it.

I don't see how anything further could erase this sermon.

Of course, it will be the "God Damn America" line that the repukes will use in the fall should Obama be the nom. And it will work. Political reality.

If the people only hear one side of the story, and they hear it over and over, most will believe it.

26. It is NOT About Ratings, It is About Keeping the Repiglickins in Power
General Electric makes far more from the war than they possibly could from NBC.
NBC's "news" organization has one mission, and one mission only: to keep the Repiggies in power.
They want the war to go on as long as possible.

It isn't much different for any of the other networks.

8. The timing on all this seems strange - very strange
Editorials aside - who invited the Rev. Wright to the NPC for a speech (at this time) and why was the media ready and waiting to spend every fucking minute of news today covering his speech???

This seems like nothing more then bait and switch - Obama's not getting any coverage today - just his pastor.

Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 09:00 PM by calipendence
Notice how we don't have to have stories on Nathalee Holloway or Britney Spears now? They have this story infatuation that they can dwell on instead of real news so that they can continue to dumb us down.

The corporations win in all ways this way!

About the only good thing that this does is it gives activists some "down time" now while we get through this mess where we can deal with other life issues besides those we are trying to get heard by the public, since it's probably a fruitless effort now to try getting anything else heard now. Might as well take a timeout now. Hopefully Bushco isn't planning their Paul Craig Roberts style coup at the moment while we're not looking.

Hillary's Pastor?

Douglas Coe
The Stealth Persuader: Many people think Congress is the host of the gala annual National Prayer Breakfast, which takes place this week. It is not. The breakfast is organized by 33 members of Congress who belong to a well-connected but secretive Christian group called the Fellowship Foundation, which is run by Douglas Coe. Coe, 76, has been called the "stealth Billy Graham." He specializes in the spiritual struggles of the powerful.

Several members of Congress live in rooms rented in a town house owned by a foundation affiliated with the group. Coe and his associates sometimes travel (on their own dime) with congressional members abroad and—according to investigations by the Los Angeles Times and Harper's—have played backstage roles in such diplomatic coups as the 1976 Camp David accords. Yet Coe also befriends dictators. "He would still hold out hope that these people could be redeemed and try to work through them to help the people over whom they have authority," says Richard Carver, president of the Fellowship's board of directors. Some skeptical Evangelicals criticize Coe's indiscriminate alliances and his downplaying of Jesus' divinity in favor of his earthly teachings—which allows Coe to pray with Muslim and Buddhist leaders. But few turn down an opportunity to confer with him.

THIS is why having a long protracted primary is bad bad bad. We need to unite against the great evil.

delegate lead and broke fundraising records. Republicans shat their pants, HillaryCo shat their pants, the media shat its pants. Right before OH/TX is when the teardown began in earnest. Idiot Hillary supporters think Hillary is somehow safe from this, because their logic is that we KNOW already that she's corrupt and a panderbear and dishonest and no one likes her, so she's protected. Fucking morons. The thing to do is shrug it off and rally behind our presumptive nominee--that will REALLY make the GOP shit its pants, if it realizes that the attacks and media hit jobs aren't working against Obama.
