For you supporters that want him to, Obama can't repudiate Wright
He cannot disown him without trashing his historic Race speech made March 18th in PA-

And this helps explain, perhaps, my relationship with Reverend Wright. As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me. He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children. Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect. He contains within him the contradictions - the good and the bad - of the community that he has served diligently for so many years. I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe. These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love.

Obama spent twenty years of his life with this man, he chooses to take his young children to sit and learn from this man. He can't claim that he just now

has realized that Pastor Wright has these views. Did Obama learn how to bring people together from Jeremiah?

No more excuses based on only 30 second sound bites, the man had about 3 whole hours of free air time this weekend to show the true

Rev. Wright, the Rev. Wright that Obama knows very well.

6. You know why he can't?
The real reason is, he is getting 90% of the black vote, and he has to maintain it to win. His efforts to gloss things over aren't going to well, and the MSM are not cooperating because they know the more it is brought to the forefront, the more middle-class white American votes he will lose. Obama is walking a tight line trying to maintain voters in both blocs.

7. Well, those of you that are still bashing Wright want this party to abandon blacks anyway.
You want us to go back to the Nineties, when the last "Democratic" president betrayed poor women, ignored black workers(and all other workers) and took the side of CEO's against the people's.

That's what supporting the candidate YOU support means. Another conservative DLC regime. And, like the last one, nothing but failure.

34. An online poll?
You think he actually polled Dem voters? Even so, it just happens to be about the same share of voters that Hillary is getting. That means they are just voting against the other candidate.

It doesn't change the fact that no one else in American politics has been held to this kind of standard. Higher standards come as no surprise to successful black people, and the Presidential race is no exception, clearly.

No. I think that people were legitimately offended by some of the comments that he had made in the past.

The fact that he is my former pastor I think makes it a legitimate political issue. So I understand that.

I think that it is also true that to run a snippet of 30-second sound bites, selecting out of a 30-year career, simplified and caricatured him, and caricatured the church.

Now we have heard three hours of the man straight on to make decision.

30. No, he said that 9-11 was the result of gays and abortions.
JERRY FALWELL: And I agree totally with you that the Lord has protected us so wonderfully these 225 years. And since 1812, this is the first time that we've been attacked on our soil and by far the worst results. And I fear, as Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense, said yesterday, that this is only the beginning. And with biological warfare available to these monsters -- the Husseins, the Bin Ladens, the Arafats -- what we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact -- if, in fact -- God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.

PAT ROBERTSON: Jerry, that's my feeling. I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can do to the major population.

JERRY FALWELL: The ACLU's got to take a lot of blame for this.

PAT ROBERTSON: Well yes.

JERRY FALWELL: And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, I totally concur, and the problem is we have adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government. And so we're responsible as a free society for what the top people do. And, the top people, of course, is the court system..

JERRY FALWELL: Pat, did you notice yesterday the ACLU and all the Christ-haters, People For the American Way, NOW, etc. were totally disregarded by the Democrats and the Republicans in both houses of Congress as they went out on the steps and called out on to God in prayer and sang "God Bless America" and said "let the ACLU be hanged". In other words, when the nation is on its knees, the only normal and natural and spiritual thing to do is what we ought to be doing all the time - calling upon God. ~~~

PAT ROBERTSON: > Amen

Because no one held them responsible. Cause no matter how long you sit in someone's church, it doesn't mean you agree with them on their sermons (edit: unless you are black).

Hillary doesn't even have a spiritual mentor. Maybe if she did she'd feel worse about her Iraq War Resolution vote.

People tried using his middle name. When that didn't work, they said he was a Muslim. When that didn't work, they brought out his crazy pastor. When that didn't work, they brought out Bill Ayers. When that didn't work, they said he was elitist because he said that people cling to guns and religion because they are bitter about their economic lot (this was actually Obama's fault, I'll allow), when that didn't work, Reverend Wright decided to come out and defend himself.

When Obama survives this, what will they throw at him next?

45. Most of that is true, in the context of what he said
Did the government lie to use about WMD? Did the government test bio/chem weapons on sailors? Did the government let black men die in Tuskeegee?

As you've been told repeatedly, he did not say the brains are different, but you just don't care because your shit pile is more comfortable for you.

Is all music the same? What's the problem with talking about the differences in music?

A lot of people believe we knew about the Pearl Harbor attack, is that news to you?

We bombed Hiroshima, and then we turned right around and did the same thing to Nagasaki - without batting an eye. There are still people who deny how many tons of bombs were dropped on Vietnam. Do you know? All based on the Tonkin Gulf lie.

Why can't you deal with the truth of this country. A vast amount of it SUCKS. If we'd dealt with all this shit, we would never have let this government lie to us about Iraq. That's the point. You can't keep walking around the elephant in the living room if you ever want to move to a more perfect union.

You're helping keep the country sick. Why?

Americans are looking for a leader to set a new tone for the country and get to work on issues like jobs, the economy, Iraq, health care and education. There is only one candidate who has shown consistently good judgement on these issues. American voters see this and have made their voices heard by choosing Barack Obama to lead this country as our next President of the United States.

37. Certainly... by praying with fuckheads like Santorum and the neocon Stepford Wives at the Fellowship
The former President of the Wellesley College Young Republicans is good as bridging the gap to the right-wing, if only because she already has one foot firmly planted there.

61. Oh, piffle; she was a freshman then; the late '60s made all of us liberal
You're talking about 1965, when she was 17 and brought her parents' values to college with her.

Wellesley was quite a liberal hotbed and it changed her.

63. Changed her into a warmonger
She still hasn't been able to get her voting record on that one switched. Try again next week, I hear the revised records should magically pop up on a desk.

66. All pastors, priests, ministers, etc., are NUTS!
First of all, they believe in magic; second, they believe in the supernatural; third, they feel that their life calling is to convince the rest of us that magic and the supernatural are real! If that's not nuts, then what is it?

72. For this.
Any members of DU who are actually Democrats ought to be far more worried about this than about the Rev. Wright. Personally, I feel no need for spiritual advisors, but if I did and had the choice of only Wright or Coe, I'd pick Wright in a New York minute.

This has the potential of becoming a huge story: Doug Coe, a man Hillary Clinton has called a “genuinely loving spiritual guide and mentor for many” has been caught on tape praising the personal relationships shared by Hitler, Goebbels and Himmler.

In the same speech Coe expressed admiration for the dedication of Chinese soldiers who, according to Coe, were forced to chop off the heads of their mothers as a demonstration of their commitment to the People’s Republic of China.

At the heart of The Family's American branch is a collection of powerful right-wing politicos, who include, or have included, Sam Brownback, Ed Meese, John Ashcroft, James Inhofe and Rick Santorum. They get to use The Family's spacious estate on the Potomac, The Cedars, which is maintained by young men in Family group homes and where meals are served by The Family's young women's group. And, at The Family's frequent prayer gatherings, they get powerful jolts of spiritual refreshment, tailored to the already powerful.

<snip>

"Sharlet generously attributes Clinton's involvement to the under-appreciated depth of her religiosity, but he himself struggles to define The Family's theological underpinnings. The Family avoids the word Christian but worships Jesus, though not the Jesus who promised the earth to the "meek." They believe that, in mass societies, it's only the elites who matter, the political leaders who can build God's "dominion" on earth. Insofar as The Family has a consistent philosophy, it's all about power--cultivating it, building it and networking it together into ever-stronger units, or "cells." "We work with power where we can," Doug Coe has said, and "build new power where we can't."

Obama has given a beautiful speech on race and his affiliation with the Trinity United Church of Christ. Now it's up to Clinton to explain--or, better yet, renounce--her long-standing connection with the fascist-leaning Family."

"She does not consider him one of her leading spiritual advisors, has never contributed

to his group and is not a member"

He was showing what can happen in godless societies, the commitment that should be with Christ is used by the state

for the states purposes.

74. But she is lying about that, and there is plenty of documentation to prove it
The book coming out in May is going to have far more details.

I like how you apologize for a guy who thinks nazis and soldiers who kill their mothers are admirable in any way.
