I made the mistake of using the internet as a source of information.
I was wrong in when I said that Frank Marshall Davis who knew Obama in Hawaii was the brother of W. Allison Davis, the Chicago professor and father of the senior partner in Obama's law firm. I cannot say if they were related in any way or that they knew each other in Chicago (although the latter would seem quite possible).
Obama's connections with each Davis is interesting in itself. I had read several things online that claimed they were brothers. I did not do my normal diligence when I quickly added that to a barely-related posting. Sorry about that; don't mean to contribute to the level of misinfo already out there.
The only reason for the baptism question initially was that I read various articles and statements which had implied Rev. Wright had baptized Barack so I was now a bit confused. When I quickly searched to see if I could find an answer, not only did I not find an answer, I ran into more of that swamp of "Obama is a Muslim" things. I can promise you that this is a big "whisper" issue in NC and affects a lot of white voters. It would be nice to have a straight answer to refute the current flavors of that claim; snopes and such are inadequate. I preferred Edwards, but I am a strong Dem and expect that my vote for our nominee in November will be for Obama. We need clean, clear, and solid responses to counteract various claims against any of our candidates.
The early versions of the OisaM emails were wildly over the top: radical Muslim, madrassa, etc. Those versions are debunked at snopes and elsewhere. The newer versions are more subdued and backed by various MSM articles and even a quote or two from Obama, that are not obviously debunked. With the recent spotlight on Rev. Wright, questions about his religion are everywhere. The newer versions use claim that Obama received Muslim instruction at the public school he attended for two years in Indonesia (two hours a week). (Obviously, he received Christian instruction when attending the Catholic school the previous two years.) He and his friends might have tagged along to evening prayers with their fathers sometimes. While none of this would "make" Obama a Muslim, it provides the kernel that grows into some of the current claims against him. I have no way to verify any of this except through various MSM articles here and in the UK.
Obama's step-father was apparently rather secular and was described as more interested in having a drink around the pool at his club than in anything revolutionary or religious. One article discussed that his step-father became more western as his mother became more Indonesan. Obama may have left himself open to some of this when he simplified the story of himself and his parents. Another example is that he glosses over that his mother attended middle and high school near Seattle rather than Kansas.
BTW the new emails attempt to link Rev Wright, the NOI, etc. back to all of this. There are other ones linking Obama to all sorts of radicals, commies, and subversives of all types; these also need better debunking.
