Clinton's Threat to "Obliterate" Iran

Michael Collins
"Scoop" Independent News
Washington, D.C.

Last week, Hillary Clinton proved that reason is on holiday. When asked how she would react to an Iranian nuclear attack on Israel, Clinton said that she would "obliterate" Iran. She didn't say it in a rage. She didn't say it in a state of nervous exhaustion. She appeared calm and composed. Her voice didn't waiver at all as she spoke these words on "Good Morning America:"
"Well, the question was, if Iran were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel, what would our response be? I want the Iranians to know that if I am president, we will attack Iran. And I want them to understand that. Because it does mean that they have to look very carefully at their society. Because whatever stage of development they might be in their nuclear weapons program, in the next 10 years during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them. Los Angeles Times Apr. 24, 2008 YouTube (at 2:29)
Snip

What type of campaign is this when a leading candidate threatens to "obliterate" an entire nation by conjuring up a ridiculous scenario that's years out … just to show that she's tough enough to be president?

What kind of political culture is it that allows such an incredibly disingenuous and reckless statement to be made and then simply vanish without in depth consideration?

Who are these people anyway, the intemperate candidate and comatose media? They don't represent the vast majority in the United States in terms of values and intellectual capacity. Yet Clinton seeks to rule and the press claims to act in the public interest.

We have reached a new low in the decline of the U.S. ruling class and their faithful servants, the corporate media. But it's just a matter of time until they remind us again that in their culture of death, there's no failure in excess.

1. If you think about it, it Really is Much smarter to "play your hand closer to your chest".
Why would supposedly smart people ignore the obvious benefits of keeping your oponent guessing about what you'll do and protecting your options?

Hillary and those she represents are conditioning us to the next development in Pre-emptive War, this time with the use of tactical nuclear weapons.

3. Good point
I should have seen the public service announcement quality of this statement. Another item on
the 'get used to it agenda' is "shortages," which get brought up more frequently.

The UN executive had the right idea when someone asked him what he thought about the rapidly
increasing food prices: "It's murder." Now that's a good tactic - the truth.

2. Another Ship Sailed To The Gulf Today As 'A Reminder'
The great Prime Minister Maliki is going to tell Iran to stop attacking them and if that doesn't work, the US is going to send a 'letter' to the UN. Yeah, right. Wonder how the American people are going to appreciate a third war for them to pay for.

4. Zbig said it best to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee in Feb. 2007
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 10:52 PM by autorank

" If the United States continues to be bogged down in a protracted bloody involvement in Iraq, the final destination on this downhill track is likely to be a head-on conflict with Iran and with much of the world of Islam at large. A plausible scenario for a military collision with Iran involves Iraqi failure to meet the benchmarks; followed by accusations of Iranian responsibility for the failure; then by some provocation in Iraq or a terrorist act in the U.S. blamed on Iran; culminating in a "defensive" U.S. military action against Iran that plunges a lonely America into a spreading and deepening quagmire eventually ranging across Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.. (.pdf of Zbigniew Brzezinski’s testimony)"

5. The Last Gasp
They have already crossed the line, now they and the neos are standing at the precipice. I guess they were joking with McLame when they led him to believe he had a shot at being president

13. Don't you just, though

He and Gen. Pace were the spoilers in Feb. 2007. I think Gates is there as insurance in case
things get too far out of hand, but I'm not positive. But, damn, Zbig really laid it out.
It was as though he went right up to the line with the PNAC folks implying that he'd spill the
whole can of beans. Amazing.

7. The collapse of the Soviet Union caught everyone by surprise.
We are following right along in their footsteps and no one even notices.

I hear 22 trillion dollars changed hands during the Soviet collapse. I wonder how much they will make off of us?

8. Times of war are times of great wealth transfer.

This time it's going to get ugly because the "rake-off" was lost in the fantasy of subprime
securities and, what Warren Buffett called, economic weapons of mass destruction, over the
counter/privately issued derivatives - over $500,000,000,000,000 (Trillion).

A bunch of somebodies have been telling whoppers and they're about to get caught.

17. Every single penny of every one of the hundreds of billions
Getting siphoned by our Treasury to the failing bank institutions is money transferred from We The People to the few inner circle families at the top.

And it wouldn't be so disastrous if we weren't REALLY needing to keep our currency stable.

But with having to buy oil from the Middle East in euros, our devalued dollar only plays into the scenario of transferring the wealth faster than my eyes can blink.

11. It always takes the foreign press to report the true state of affairs in the United States
Our media is a joke. If McCain is elected and we get 4 more years of rethug rule, expect internet links to foreign news sources to soon be blocked. The next step by the rethugs is the absolute control of information. Think along the lines of China. Then, it will only get worse from there.

14. If I then We...
Crap, I detest the empty bravado of pigs like both Clintons and Shithead and Cheney. None of them willing to don the uniform but "annie get your gun" ready to send suckers off to die. A true leader would challenge Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to a fistfight to settle "our" differences.

15. A debate would be even better...
The guy is missing a few pieces of evidence, like the history of the 20th century. If the Mullahs who
run Iran tried to design the very worst person to run their country, in terms of foreign relations
and image, they couldn't have done better than Ahmadinejad... but that's no reason to "obliterate"
everybody.
