I may be out of line here but
I see the whole Rev. Wright affair as a high tech lynching. A matter of no consequence to anything that has whipped people into a frenzy causing them to call for someone's scalp. Led by persons who are known to be racially insensitive in the past and drawing in those who can gain from this incident. The language used in many cases is some of the old couched racist language.
I think it is sad that more haven't stood up and called it for what it is.
This will be my first and only post on Wright.

Some of the language I have been hearing especially on RW radio and even NPR has overtones that I rember from my long lost youth.

7. Me, too.
I said that very thing a week ago to Mr. JaneAustin.

Who else, in the history of the country, has had people monitor everything their pastor has said, excerpted it for maximum negative effect, and then played, replayed and discussed it for weeks.

Nobody, that's who.

This has been specially served up for that "uppity" Barack Obama, and his opinionated pastor.

Unprecedented.

as Obama's externalized "blackness".

And it saddens me deeply.

8. This makes ZERO sense to me.
Are you suggesting that Obama is joining in with the lynching of his former Pastor?

Because if not - then might I suggest that your whole metaphor is kind of misguided?

Wright has been criticized for what he has been preaching in front of hundreds of people.

Obama has been criticized for choosing to associate himself with Wright in the past.

NOBODY IS LYNCHING ANYONE.

11. How are Obama and Wright in this together?
Obama just threw Wright under the bus. "He does not speak for me."

Or did you miss that part? :eyes:

Maybe I missed that part...

I thought this was more just about the way the media treated the Wright "issue".

on edit: Yeah, I don't see Obama's name anywhere in the OP. What are you saying?

15. I wrote it. It is about how the media has found a way to
make Obama look bad and skewer Wright at the same time. Were it not for Obama few would ever had heard of Wright. The media has been chosen to hang Obama and Wright in ways that they would not treat others. I simply believe that that race plays into this situation based on the way they have been treated and the language.

19. If indeed it is a lynching, Obama just kicked the stool out from under Wright.
Stabbed his own pastor in the back and let him swing in the wind. Wright has shown he can defend himself, however.

Personally, I find the metaphor grossly inappropriate, as I've said here before.

22. I think you're confused.
I believe we're talking about the "lynching" of Rev. Wright, not of Barack Obama. Show me where I blamed Wright for the "lynching." All I said was if it was a lynching, Obama just participated in it by stabbing his pastor in the back.

See my posts this week on Wright's speech at the NPC, and then come after me.

who tries to enter the arena without their permission. Ergo Obama especially and then Wright by association.

28. Let's see ... Obama has just about got a lock on the nomination
He addresses adoring throngs everywhere he goes ... nah, I don't think he's been lynched, high-tech or otherwise. He may well end up in the White House.

By the way, I (and many others here) really loathe the use of the term coined by Hizzoner Clarence Thomas ...

23. Well...when the media ..
24/7 for 3 weeks running plays a selected clip from a sermon, from over 30+ years of Sermons what do you call that? With absolutely no other reference to anything about the man or his life, what do you call that? The media made the circus, in an attempt to take down one man at the expense of another. I guess we'll just have to watch and see if they were successful or not. As far as Obama kicking out the stool...I think it's more like he just cut the Preacher down from the gallows.

21. I think it's sad too....
I'm not sure if that many of these posters are actually that racist, or if they are just trying to pimp racism as a winning strategy. The Clinton Campaign is obviously attempting to make the point that Obama is unelectable because he is black. I have read comments here claiming the country is 80-90% racist, and the media never fails to distinguish 'black voters' from 'white voters', 'educated voters' from 'blue collar voters'. Divide and Conquer..the American Way!!
