Am I the only one sick of the punditocracy saying, "This story just won't go away" when THEY'RE the
ones who decide what is and is not a story?

Hey, you idiots - the story WILL go away if you stop talking about it. And if you DON'T stop talking about it, at least quit whining that the STORY JUST WON'T GO AWAY!

51. a couple points ...
first, they get bullied VERY easily by the Rs ... who, once they saw BO as the emerging nominee, had their propogandist like Rush complain who the "liberal media" had been taking it easy on BO ... This is their chance to get back into the right's good graces ...

second, BO did not throw Wright under the bus at outset, which is what the MSM wanted him to do, and this is in part vengence for him not complying to their normalcy ...

only thing they have right at this point is Wright's narcisism, cause they are VERY in touch with that ...

15. Christ Matthews is having a fit - Obama shot him down by repudiating Wright
- which is exactly what he and his buddies were screaming at Obama to do (since, after all, they claimed, the only reason the Wright story was still a story was that he had NOT repudiated him). Now that Obama has done that, Matthews is doing his damndest to try to keep this story afloat.

Pundits: You better say something about Wright. You'd better say something about Wright. You'd better say something about Wright. SAY SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING

Obama: Brilliant something about Wright

Pundits: What a great speech, but it wasn't enough because you didn't REPUDIATE him. Why don't you REPUDIATE HIM?!!! We have to keep talking about it because YOU DIDN'T REPUDIATE HIM!!! When are you going to REPUDIATE HIM?!?! We can't help but keep talking about it because the story won't go away until you REPUDIATE HIM!!! We're going to talk about it until you REPUDIATE HIM!!!

Obama: I repudiate him.

Pundits: OBAMA REPUDIATES WRIGHT. IS IT ENOUGH TO SAVE HIS CAMPAIGN? WAS IT FORCEFUL ENOUGH?

WHAT TOOK HIM SO LONG.

Uh-oh - this is still a story. We'd better keep talking about it NOW THAT HE'S REPUDIATED HIM, it's now a REALLY BIG STORY!!!

I think Wright as a story fades day by day- unelsss Wright "responds". G-d forbid! Wright's a brilliant guy; I want to think that he "forced" Barack to cut him off to "save" his campaign. In which case, his work is done.

Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 04:21 PM by Cali_Democrat
I'm reading more and more about the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and I can tell you it was a complete disaster. Bill Clinton signed it into law.

It essentially gave private corporations more control over our airwaves and consolidated the media. Our media is consolidated into the hands of a few corporations and they are doing their best to brainwash us and push their agendas.

We are in deep shit if Obama is not elected. Obama is our only hope right now. Why would Hillary repeal this law when Bill signed it? She won't. She is bought by the same corporate interests. Hell, even Rupert Murdoch had a fundraiser for her. We all need to hope and pray that Obama is elected.

31. Yup. And he just said, "Much more about Rev. Wright coming up in the Politics Fix!"
(paraphrased, but that's the idea)

Kerry was interviewed earlier by Alex Witt and she asked him how he feels about the Wright situation, prefacing it by saying, "I know you're not going to like this question, but..." and he said he wishes she and the rest of the media would drop this already, that he made the definitive statement yesterday, and it's time to move on to subjects that affect the American people! Jeez! They just keep going and going.

28. He did that last night, too
He went on to say that if they (MSNBC) were still talking about it tomorrow (today), then it was important. (So of course they've decided to keep talking about it). He further inflated his own importance by declaring if they were still talking about it on Thursday, it would make it on the Sunday shows (With his role being merely tangential, apparently?). So it looks like they're going to keep talking about it (and I've really only seen it on MSNBC, btw; CNN has moved on to Paula Abdul's embarrassing existence on American Idol last night as the Most Popular and Most E-Mailed story), and he's going out of his way to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It seems no one told Chris he has the power to stop talking about it.

Even funnier (more pathetic?): last night they all deemed he made a forceful statement and that should be the end of it. This morning, however, they were right (Wright?) back at it. It seems they don't even watch their own network.

45. I agree...
and I felt GREAT last night when they all seemed to say it was the end of it, Obama was as forceful as he could be, end of story. And wouldn't you know it-they're (W)right back at it today-"Did Obama go far enough?" "Is this over?" "Will people believe that Obama didn't know about these types of comments throughout his TWENTY YEARS of sitting in Wright's church?" It was right back to BEFORE he "divorced" himself from Wright. Throw in Pat Buchanan, "Rev." Joe Watkins, etc., and the same old questions are being asked. I guess there's NOTHING Obama can do except hope the people are smarter than the media.

46. You are definitely not alone...
..in thinking this. And sadly, it was also the pattern in 2000 and 2004. I posted this about what Obama is facing (responding to a suggestion that Kerry should have spokien out in 2004) with the media spin:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If Kerry had done what Obama just did (and HE DID). And if Kerry had had the media coverage that Obama has enjoyed, thanks to the lessons learned in 2004, (and HE DIDN'T). Then, I agree with you, President Kerry would be finishing his first term in office.

Instead, the media sold the American public a caricature of Bush and Kerry. BOTH caricatures were wrong...as is now clear. They did the same thing in 2000 with Gore. The media coverage in 2000 and 2004 was shameful. They didn't even really cover the conventions well. They just broadcast from the scene, and picked things like purple band-aids to share with the public, who had a duty to be informed and then vote for a qualified president.

Obama benefits from a somewhat better media situation...but I wouldn't be too complacent, if I were you. The attempt to caricature is still happening. And it's not about whether Obama counters it 'correctly' or not. It wasn't about whether Kerry countered 'correctly' or 'strongly enough'...it's about what the MEDIA does.

Obama is doing a GREAT job...but this election isn't close to being over yet.
