Oh oh. Will the MSM bust St. Obama on his changing stories (lies) about Wright?
With all the controversy continuing to swirl around the Obama/Wright relationship, an important question remains. What did Obama know and when did he know it? There have been many different versions of an answer to this question from Senator Obama, ranging from never hearing these sermons, to them being taken out of context, and yesterday when Obama said this was not the man he met 20 years ago.

A focal point is Wright being "uninvited" to the announcement of Obama’s presidential candidacy. In an interview with the New York Times, Wright had this recollection of the disinvitation, from RealClearPolitics:

The Rolling Stone article was from the February 22. 2007 issue and was entitled "The Radical Roots of Barack Obama", a title later changed to "Destiny’s Child." It contained excerpts from a sermon by Reverend Wright called 10 Essential Facts About America. Here are some of the "facts" mentioned by Wright:

Racism is alive and well. Racism is the American way.

Racism is how this country was founded, and how this country is still run.

No black man can ever be President.

No black woman will ever be considered for anything outside of what she can give with her body.

America is still the number one killer in the world.

We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training professional killers.

We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority. And believe it more than we believe in God.

We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians, and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic.

We do not care if poor black and brown children cannot read and kill each other senselessly

We started the AIDS virus, and now that it is out of control we still put more money in the military than in medicine. More money in hate than humanitarian concerns.

We are selfish, self-centered ego egotists, who are arrogant and ignorant.

So if Senator Obama knew enough about Wright’s statements to uninvite him to his presidential announcement, why did he later say he never heard such statements? Here is a fact of my own, these words are nothing new. They reflect who Rev. Wright is and who he has always been. It all comes down to honesty and believability. There is a lesson I assumed all politicians learned from Watergate, the cover-up is always worse than the original offense.

I even find some satisfaction when I imagine her winning the GE. It would be sweet payback to the flying monkey brigade on the right, and I know she won't be a disaster like McCain. It's my only Obama hesitation, that he probably won't make enough right-wing heads explode.

77. Oh, he's dropped a few hints already!
"The Clinton campaign has no conscience," Edwards said, after Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said Edwards does no more than "read articles about people who need help and talk about them."

"The idea that everything is about them (suggests) that they have no conscience," Edwards said of the Clinton campaign, my colleague Josh Kraushaar reports. "I'm very surprised by the comments."

"I didn't hear these kinds of attacks from Senator Clinton when she was ahead," Edwards said. "Every time he speaks out for change, every time I fight for change, the forces of status quo are going to attack -- every single time."

"I think that voters have to ask themselves is: do you believe that the candidate who's raised the most money from Washington lobbyists, Democrat or Republican, the candidate who's raised the most money from the health industry, drug companies, health insurance companies, the candidate who's raised the most money from the defence industry, Republican or Democrat - and the answer to all of those questions is: that's Senator Clinton. Will she be the person who brings about the change in this country? You know, I believe in Santa Claus. I believe in the tooth fairy. But I don't think that's going to happen. I really don't. I think that if people want the status quo, Senator Clinton is your candidate."

I hope you are proud of the fact that you use the language & tactics of every Republican frat-boy & red-neck I've ever met.

Have you EVER heard of progressive accusing folks of "playing the race card" before now? I havent. Only Republicans and media types.

Let's get this straight- when I call you guys out for using Willie Horton style association games-or using language invented by racists to appeal to racists- that doesnt mean I'm playing cards- it means you are using racist tactics that true progressives should avoid.

Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 06:01 PM by Dr Fate
I thought his memo predicted that the Clintons might engage in "race-baiting"- and they did.

And Bill Clinton gets the "honor" of being the first progressive on record to use language invented by racists to appeal to racists, in that context? Wow- you must be proud.

But then Bill Clinton even lied about saying "race card"- so I guess you cant be proud.

Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 06:04 PM by jackson_dem
Language? Do we need to get into Obama's sexist language? Ah, Obama's use of race-baiting revolves around a minority group (i.e. the "hoodwinked, bamboozled code language in MS to get folks to vote against a white candidate) so it is okay for him to race-bait. How "progressive". :sarcasm: This kind of idiocy is what is getting Obama in trouble. His cronies want to use race as a shield as well as a battering ram against the white Clintons while convenient. No wonder he has tanked with whites and Latinos.

Speaking of sexism, what about you objectifying "Obama girl"? That is "progressive"?

Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 06:20 PM by Dr Fate
I dont equate language used to express concern to black voters over race-baiting with racism itself.

I DO find language and tactics invented by racists, for racists- to be suspect.

As far as Obama tanking with certain whites & latinos- that has much more to do with how Hillary/media/McCain presents the Wright story as opposed to anyone calling out the racist tactics therein. Whether it is racist to use these tactics or not has gotten little coverage in the media that I've seen.

However, I'm always perplexed to see certain threads by certain posters, constantly get the reaction they're seeking.

This isn't really for you, but for everyone. It's tough I know, but I restrained myself from responding to the "Obama has nothing to be ashamed of" thread despite it constantly bubbling at the top of GDP. :hi:

Oh, I understand completely
As I said, this is more a general announcement - some threads are posted only to needle a segment of DU, and make them upset. The threads are not there to do anything but.

When people respond in a negative/mad way, the OP has achieved his/her desired result.

Believe me, I'm a pro at it. :P

10. shall the sins of the father be visited upon the son?
Exodus 20:5, Deuteronomy 5:9 and
Deuteronomy 24:16; Ezekiel 18:20

Yes they do
(Exodus 20:5) - "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,"
(Deuteronomy 5:9) - "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,"
(Exodus 34:6-7) - "Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; 7who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations."
(1 Cor. 15:22) - "For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive."
No they don't
(Deuteronomy 24:16) - "Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin."
(Ezekiel 18:20) - "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself."

What does the fictional Bible fairy tales have to do with politics? Are you mixing metaphors here and trying to create a parallel to Obama and his Messianic cult of Kool-Aiders?

No surprise there. Logic, the best source for factual consideration of a valid issue against the Bible......BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 05:41 PM by Dr Fate
They are so busy pretending to relate to some mythological, salt-of-the-earth, "working class" whites that they have to pretend that pushing red-neck, race-button politics is a progressive value.

You and I know they dont *really* like race-baiting or dishonest association games- and they will realize this once Mccain swings a sizable portion of their beloved "working class" swing-voters back to the GOP using the exact same tactics.

Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 05:56 PM by Dr Fate
Next you will tell me that bringing in Farrakan wasnt specifically calculated to push the buttons of the angry white swing-voter.

There is a reason why Republicans push the story to their GOP base too- b/c they know their base doesnt like "scary black people" any more than some of Hillary's new swing-voters do...

85. If David Duke or the KKK's leader endorsed Clinton that wouldn't be news?
Obama needs to ask why so many bigots endorse him, not Clinton, not Edwards. Obama, the uniter.

Dr Fate, voters didn't discover Obama is black recently. His decline isn't due to racism. The racists were against him from day 1. His decline is natural. What was unnatural was a candidate running for prez for a year, being a strong second and not being vetted for over a year. 30+ states voted before the vetting process began, very unusual...

89. Lets stick to the facts, not hypotheticals. There are enough facts without making up new scenarios.
You know as well as I do that the Willie Horton style tactics were used to bring-out or reinforce certain fears held by angry white males who might have otherwise been ready to move forward if they had been presented with an honest debate instead of race-baiting.

I never knew about the "many" bigots that are endorsing Obama as you claim- but I do know about the swing voters who said in exit polls that they are "not ready for a black president."

If it makes me "elite" to oppose the behavior of certain ignorant folks and their political allies, then so be it.

You did note that I put "working class" in quotes didn't you? Thats b/c I know that the REAL working class also includes black people, folks who are educated and folks who are not easily race-baited with "Farrakhan" and "race cards" and all that crap.

98. Obama KNEW but LIED:

In the debate in Philadelphia, when questioned about the disinvitation, Obama said:

"I've discussed this extensively. Reverend Wright is somebody who made controversial statements but they were not of the sort that we saw that offended so many Americans."

95. The media swallowed Obama's initial lies in a split-second
It was unbelievable how quickly they moved to protect Obama.

Obama: 'I wasn't there for that sermon.'

Media:
'That answers that! Nothing to see here! Move on, move on!
Did you see how quickly he answered his critics?
Hillary is 'throwing the kitchen sink at Obama'. She's negative.
Obama takes the high-road!'

Except of course that Obama's lies are not the 'high road' and this was never about "A" sermon. It's been about an entire set of beliefs that Obama and his wife have subscribed to for twenty years. It's about what his church and his personal friend/campaign Religious Advisor have been espousing and they've been following.

The media will certainly try to do the same thing here as Obama kicks his long-time friend and mentor under the bus to try to get himself free and clear of twenty years of it. Just today the media helped Obama portray Wright, the pastor, friend, religious advisor, personal mentor, inspiration for his book, the guy who married him, baptized his children and prayed with him as he announced his candidacy, as "a remote figure" in Obama's life.

It won't work. Sure, the media won't let Hillary touch Obama, but the Publicans don't give a shit about what the media wants, and Obama's twenty years of these kinds of beliefs, like Michelle Obama's 'never been proud of America' attitudes, straight out of this church, would be a hugely debilitating issue for Democrats from start to finish.

I do think that far too many people on this board act and sound like they are interviewing for fox news - if you cannot see that you are doing their work for them - then we have nothing to talk about

Obama was talking about the snippets taken out of context -

and by the way I worked on HIV prevention for 18 years and every minority community I worked in was suspicious about the governments role in developing and spreading HIV - walk a mile in their shoes before you condemn
and you might be informed by reading a little Howard Zinn for a different perspective on US history
