Fox News' Garrett falsely claimed the Golden Rule, Obama's "favorite Scripture," is not, in fact,
"exactly rooted in Scripture"

http://mediamatters.org/items/200804290004?f=h_latest

Summary: Reporting on Sen. Barack Obama's answer to a question about his "favorite Scripture," Fox News' Major Garrett asserted that "Obama's answer not exactly rooted in Scripture but in the ballpark," and then aired a clip of Obama saying: "he Golden Rule. It's very simple. I mean, it's a very simple concept. I think what he asks of me is that I treat my brother as -- and my sister -- as I would have them treat me." Contrary to Garrett's claim, Obama's answer is, in fact, "rooted in Scripture."

2. Ouch!
But I thought FOX was the "family values" christofascist crowd's channel of choice. They can't get anything right lately (and by lately, I mean in the last decade).

3. Matthew 7, verse 12
Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 08:57 PM by Bear down under
"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." (King James Version)

Edited to add:

"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise."
Luke 6, verse 31 (King James Version) -- which is the form in which the 'Golden Rule' is usually quoted.

4. A different translation
Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.

Matthew 7:12, New American Bible (my preferred translation)
