**Breaking **From AP: IN Superdelegate Joe Andrew switches his allegiance to Barack Obama
Edited on Thu May-01-08 03:40 AM by FrenchieCat

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - A leader of the Democratic Party under Bill Clinton has switched his allegiance to Barack Obama and is encouraging fellow Democrats to "heal the rift in our party" and unite behind the Illinois senator.

Joe Andrew, who was Democratic National Committee chairman from 1999-2001, planned a news conference Thursday in his hometown of Indianapolis to urge other Hoosiers to support Obama in Tuesday's primary, perhaps the most important contest left in the White House race. He also has written a lengthy letter explaining his decision that he plans to send to other superdelegates.

"I am convinced that the primary process has devolved to the point that it's now bad for the Democratic Party," Andrew said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

Bill Clinton appointed Andrew chairman of the DNC near the end of his presidency, and Andrew endorsed the former first lady last year on the day she declared her candidacy for the White House.

11. I believe this makes it 11 SD endorsements since PA
and most of them have been elected SDs, many of whom have to run with whoever is at the top of the ticket.

4. Make sure to go to the link and read the entire article.....
It's pretty long.

This superdelegate speaks on the Wright Issue and how Obama's handling of it swayed him. And Obama had not been trying to win this superdelegate away from Hillary or anything.

47. "a vote for Hillary is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process...
Edited on Thu May-01-08 05:58 AM by flpoljunkie
Andrew said in his letter that he is switching his support because "a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process is a vote that assists (Republican) John McCain."

10. Wow....
I especially liked this comment "He said Obama took the principled stand in opposing a summer gas tax holiday that both Clinton and McCain supported, even though it would have been easier politically to back it." I hope other SD's realize this too. Joe Andres better watch out! Hill and Bill will come after him hard, just as they did with Richardson. I also think this is great since the SD is from Indiana. I hope that helps him a bit. Well, it can't hurt him but it might help out in a close race!

12. Buyers Remorse, perhaps?
Obama now trails her by just 19 superdelegates, 244-263. This week, he picked up eight superdelegates while she netted three.

He brought the Hope Scholarship to GA. For one thing. He had many other progressive ideas. He's become unrecognizable in the past several years.

14. I was just thinking that
although this Wright issue has been AWFUL, it might end up helping Obama in the end with the Super Delegates. Perhaps many others will respect how he dealt with the situation. They had an opportunity to see him under pressure during one of the darkest days of his campaign and they might like the way he responds when under pressure. Plus they have an opportunity to see him being attacked by the media, Clinton and McCain and yet he is still standing.

15. That seems like a pretty significant endorsement
How do you not interpret that as a sharp rebuke to Clinton? How do you not see that as Mr. Andrew saying that he disapproves strongly of how the Clinton campaign has been operating?

Once Obama passes her in the superdelegate race, I think that the MSM might jump off of Hillary's bandwagon and come back over to the good side.

I just heard Bill Press (who normally has me yelling at my radio) currently in NC saying he attended an event where Obama supporters outnumbered Clinton's 5-1. He then said he made a prediction at the event that whoever wins NC will be the next POTUS. And he's been a Hillary-shrill for some time now. TV/Newspapers today will be interesting.
