Did Obama snub black media?
Edited on Thu May-01-08 07:47 AM by jasmine621
"Black publishers say they have been locked out of Obama's advertising game plan - and even shunned in their attempts to cover the Obama operation. The Illinois Senator's handlers - and maybe the man himself - "think that we as black people are so anxious to get a black president that we'll support him no matter what," said one editor. "So why waste money on us?""

1. The black agenda report contains MANY Clinton supporters and they for the
most part have been against Obama from the start.

2. I hear Obama hates black folks and white people
These claims just get more and more ludicrous. Obama is the ONLY canidate preaching tolerance and not hating. He is about working together, not fighting. Yet these idiotic accusations and claims are a dail occurance. It's disgusting.

3. As someone who's done media buys for a campaign...
I'd say they're probably right. They DO think it's a waste of money to go after votes they already have.

But since he's pulling in so many contributions, it would be smart to throw them some work, anyway - just as a good-will gesture.

4. right.. you put your media dollars where you can reach NEW voters
it's a bit of a waste to advertise to those who already support you.
Media buys aren't thank you baskets. :-)))

7. Absolutely there are.
It's just that paid media may not be the best way to reach them
and get them involved. There is so much fantastic buzz and
word-of -mouth going on on out in the community, I'd put more
effort into encouraging more of that than buying print, radio, tv or even online.
Which it appears they are doing (i'm not privy to their plan,
so I'm just speaking as a wayyyy outside observer). I'd then use
mass media to reach broader populations like EVERYBODY : - )))

You know what would happen if Obama were to give a speech talking about how he would help the black community.

I'm sure Buchanan and the rest of the corporate-media pundits would love it!!!

Not.

8. Obama can't get a break...
If he placed ads in a black publication someone like buchanan and hannity would suggest he had a secret agenda. "Look, he is targeting his people." If he delivered a speech about how he was going to help the black community, same thing.

I think the majority of black folk do not feel slighted by him, at least I don't. We know he is not playing by the same rules as everyone else. Everything he does is under scrutiny - MORE scrutiny because he is black. That said, I do wish he would throw some of his money to diverse publishers...

13. No presidential candidate has ever been under this pressure.
As a writer, I support the black press. AND, I'm watching this guy being put through a grinder no one is putting McSame or Clinton through.

I'll keep watching, and I'm sure mistakes will be made. If this campaign disrespects the black press, they'll hear from me. Period.

14. Cool. The campaign will hear from you if the black press is disrespected.

I hope (and believe) your outrage will be equal regardless of which campaign it is that is snubbing them. Obama's dilemma is he is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Although those interviewed said all the campaigns were ignoring them, it was Obama they called out most. I just wish the playing field was equal...

And, I DO think Obama should advertise in/support black newspapers.

9. Another Clinton supporter links to the Black Agenda Report....
With the hopes of tearing away Obama's AA support or telling DUers that Obama's AA support is crumbling even if it isn't true.
