Personally I think the Republican Attack Machine is shitting their pants that we're taking so long
to come up with a nominee.

According to MSNBC, the latest polls showed that the American people favor the Democrats over the Republicans right now by 50 something% to 30 something%, a huge margin. If the other side knew who our candidate was, they'd be swiftboating the shit out of us already. Yes, huge gaps always worry me because you know that they're gonna close, but the less time the Repukes have to close the gap against us, the better. In the meantime, I've seen some very effective commercials bashing John McCain, which have been put out by our own people.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying, but we know who the enemy is, and they don't. We KNOW who to go after, and behind the scenes our people have had plenty of time getting prepared to go after that person. The Rovian repukes, OTOH, do not know who it is that they'll be going up against, and it's gotta take away from their ability to prepare and focus on the enemy. Shit, those assholes must be beside themelves right now that they can't even run an effective attack ad against us without bashing BOTH our candidates at the same time, which just makes their side look jokers if they do.

In the meantime, Hillary and Barack have gotten SO MUCH MORE EXPOSURE that the American people have gotten a chance to finally get to judge them for themselves...and not by what Rush Limbaugh says or Hannity. By now there shouldn't be a single person in this country who thinks Hillary Clinton flies around on a broomstick or that Barack Obama is from Saudi Arabia. I think both our candidates have benefited from this extra time greatly, even though they're working their asses off overtime. Hillary has proven how strong she is and that she can be likable, and Barack is making people who never knew him before fall in love with him everyday.

Maybe for once we Democrats have inadvertently done something right by fucking up with our Primary process and taking so long to determine who our candidate will be. lol

1. Oh you are so wrong! Hillary does fly around on a broomstick
Dick Morris said so and that settles it!

2. I agree with you. I believe the divisions in the Democratic party will heal
But let's not underestimate the GOP. The will still be able to form an effective attack campaign against our nominee.

4. You make a good point
I've decided that life is not black and white; it's pro's and con's.

There are negatives to the drawn out primary, but you hit the nail on the head about the positive. Kerry was doing much, much better in 2004 before he became the nominee than after. The change IMO was because the Repubs concentrated all their lies on him rather than having to go after Dean, him, Edwards, and Clark before Kerry was chosen.

5. "If the other side knew who our candidate was..."

They do. They know damn well who it is. They are certainly aware that Clinton capturing the nomination would require a political miracle of the sort required to give Ron Paul the Republican nomination. That's why Rush has been pushing his pro-Hillary "Operation Chaos." That's why virtually everything written by the right-wing editorial/blog network is anti-Obama (and why Clinton has been all but ignored by them.) That's why Sen. Clinton has become the darling of Fox News. That's why they've prepared a string of anti-Obama ads--and why they were about to run them in N.C., until McCain took the opportunity to grab the high ground and call them off.

The only reason they aren't attacking Obama with greater fury is that Clinton is doing an acceptable job of attacking the Democratic nominee at the moment. You can claim that the extra "exposure" is a good thing, but the polls tell a different story: as the race has dragged onwards, both Clinton and Obama have seen their numbers slowly trend downwards. Every dollar Clinton spends on attack ads is a dollar the right-wing noise machine can save for the summer blitz.

I understand Clinton supporters are desperately trying to avoid believing that they're harming the party, but this is one of the weaker defenses I've read.

7. The idea that the lengthy primary hurts us isn't necessarily true.
Behind the scenes, Obama and Clinton are getting busy preparing to frame McCain, and once the nomination is settled, they will open up with both barrels.
McCain is a weak candidate...we will soon expose him for what he truly is.
