I Need To Get Away from All This
It is just troubling to watch what is happening to Obama. All this over a Pastor. Not his policies, not his values, not anything about him. All this bullshit over his Angry black pastor that makes ignorant people think that he must feel the same way on certain issues. You know, I think I gave the American Electorate a little too much credit. I thought they could be adults with this issue and realize that its one big media distraction. I thought that today his polling numbers would go up because of the press conference, but instead, it appears that though they think he is a hateful, terrrible man, many people would rather believe Reverand Wright when it comes To Obama's denouncement than they would Obama himself. Ridiculous? Of course it is. For my sake, I need to find a way to just ignore this until Tuesday, because I really dont want to get this upset every time I see support bleeding from him. I will never leave the man, and I know many here wouldnt either, but apparently people just dont feel as strongly for their candidates as we do. SO I'm gonna try my best to take a real break from this place, watching the news, searching politics, and pretend I'm one of my other college friends who doesnt even know who Reverand Wright is. I've tried it before, but of course it didnt work. But I need to try again. Maybe I'll bury myself in my school work? Wait, I know what I'll do.

I'm gonna go watch The West Wing. That always seems to make things better.

So I know I've said this before and not listened to my own thoughts, but hopeffully I will see you all on Tuesday or Wednesday, hoping that it will be a good night, and not another disappointment.

15. That's the point. Hillary's no role model for my daughter when she disowns her femininity
... Ovaries for "testicular fortitude"

Great women leaders do NOT have to exude testosterone (OBLITERATE Iran :wtf:) or abuse alcohol like college pledges (taking shots with beer chasers) in order to appear as "strong and effective LEADERS."

I fear that HRC has many "unresolved emotional conflicts" that stem from her right wing misogynistic father not ever fully accepting her achievements. OMG! Please don't let this unstable person ascend to "unitary executive" where she may OBLITERATE the M.E. ... all in in some sub-conscious attempt to "Please DADDY?!?"

That's an interesting observation; I hadn't thought about
that before but it might explain quite a lot about her.

22. Wright attacked both Clintons from the pulpit in a really repugnant way
And it is grossly irresponsible for someone in his position to spread the lie that AIDS was created by the gov't to kill minorities. As far as I can see, Obama is a far better man than Wright. But each to their own.

That's right. Reagan didn't invent AIDS, he just helped
prevent the CDC and others from working on it as quickly
as was necessary because it was only GRID (Gay-Related
Immune Deficiency) and who cared about the gays and
Haitians, right?

It's a shame Wright went that one step probably too far,
because there's plenty for the American government to
be ashamed of with regard to AIDS without the claim
that they invented it.

(Still, wouldn't it be funny if, fifty years from now,
that was disclosed to have been the truth?)

Hopefully, folks understand that others feel just as passionately about their candidate and hurt when they were trashed as if they are trashed themselves...

It's an interesting phenomenon how intelligent people can become so emeshed in events that are largely if not totally beyond control...

Oh, you're one of the good guys; most of the time...

11. It's so hard not to get discouraged
And you put it perfectly. It's breaking my heart to see Obama being attacked and bleeding support over the actions of his pastor, whose remarks he had already repudiated and whom he had already taken so much heat for. It's insane the way he is being attacked not for his own actions and policies, but for the actions of someone else whom he has no control over.

I went through this with Dean in 2004, trying to hang on even when it seemed like things were collapsing, and it's painful. You get demoralized and it's hard to stay motivated to keep going on trips to canvass, keep volunteering, keep giving money that could be going into a sinking ship. But we have to stay strong and keep going if we have any hope of turning things around. We've come this far, we can't give up now. And I write this with a heavy heart, trying to convince myself as much as anyone else.

14. Read this. "Hillary Playing by Her Own Set of Rules, 'Hillary Rules.'"
Plus, all this talk about Hillary being a "fighter" and "wanting to let the voters decide." That's what the person who is behind always says!

Clinton playing by her own set of rules

By: Roger Simon

May 1, 2008 12:07 PM EST

Hillary Clinton leads Barack Obama in the popular vote, and this is her path to victory.

She will ultimately win the Democratic nomination by convincing the superdelegates that her popular vote lead makes it legitimate for them to support her. It gives them the cover they need to deny Obama a nomination that he otherwise would have won.

What’s wrong with this picture?

First, Clinton does not lead Obama in the popular vote. It is a fantasy.

Second, the people she most needs to convince that this fantasy is true are the people least likely to believe it.

Let’s first deal with Clinton’s fantasy lead in the popular vote.

16. It's Really Toxic
right now - I deprogrammed Hardball, the nightly network news, and even Keith Olbermann.

If the media's obsession with Wright takes down Obama, and paves the way for Hillary to sweep down and snatch this away, I'm done.

Enjoy your time away and hopefully come Tuesday evening our faith will be restored or our biggest fears will be realized.

19. don't despair.
The polls we're seeing today I don't believe reflect the press conference that Obama held on Tuesday, it's too soon. The public reaction to that will probably show up tomorrow or over the weekend, maybe even as late as Monday. I haven't seen a poll yet that asked "do you think Sen. Obama's press conference was adequate to end the Rev. Wright controversy?" (or something like that) We'll see when those questions start popping up... don't get too down yet.

Many of the Obama supporters, like this one, are young and haven't dealt with the hell of a national campaign before. They also haven't had their hearts broken by the American electorate. That's why they don't understand that Obama will not stand up under the incredible abuse of the general election. That's why they don't understand that a vague, unformed message of "hope and change" will not win us the presidency.

That's also why they feel okay about alienating other Democrats all day long by being total assholes on this message boards. They don't understand the rule: "If we don't all hang together (in the general), we will most assuredly all hang seperately".

24. "I gave the American Electorate a little too much credit" - yep - that only leads to grief..
after seeing how many numbskulls voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 I learned never to do that again. It only leads to heartbreak.

Bush may not of won but he did get enough votes to be able to steal it both times.

That whole thing turned me into a hardened cynic....
