Surprisingly close numbers in SC pres race
President
Bush 51
Kerry 44

http://surveyusa.com/2004_Elections/SC040713pressen.pdf

Note: It is in PDF.

Well, either Gallup is way off, or a neighboring state (which is arguably MORE conservative than NC) is really quite close. Hmmm, this goes along with the recent news that Bush is playing ads there. Great, the more ads he plays there, the less he has for PA, WI, OR, and other swing states.

Granted, I'm doubting the state is in play, but this is still good news.

Unfortunately the republican senator is beating the democrat by 7 points (this is the seat being vacated by Fritz Hollings).

Senate

DeMint (R) 48
Tenenbaum (D) 41

2. Lots of anti-Kerry ads running in S.C. and N.C and S.C. Repub primary ads
including lots of ads for Jim DeMint due to the very competitive Repub primary. Would not surprise me if more voters are more familiar with Jim DeMint at this point . I watch 2 S.C. channels and haven't seen any Democratic Senate ads yet.

3. I would imagine Demint has higher name recognition
because of the primary. Really not too bad of numbers.

As for the Presidential numbers Gallup really did a number when they created their "likely" voters.

SUSA is reporting likely voters. I wish they'd give their registered voter numbers too.

5. I agree that this definitely calls into question the North Carolina
poll results.
I don't believe that we have anything other than a slim chance at taking North Carolina, even with a native on the ticket as VP. However, polls in SOUTH CAROLINA showing a 6 point Bush lead vs. a 14 POINT LEAD in NORTH CAROLINA? :WTF:
No way.

6. jobs
This needs to be seen by those in GD who wish to write off the South. Jobs are the issue that might make SC competitive and Edwards don't hurt one bit. For every one good job we got by bending over for BMW there's a gang of former textile workers who wistfully remember economic security.
I'm a pawnbroker(ominous music) and am not shy about talking politics with my customers and what I hear is encouraging. Jingoism is well on the decline and nearly all who talk about the economy say that all of this talk about an improving economy is a joke. If Edwards is given his head and the platform seriously addresses NAFTA and GATT we can make it close. Inez should hammer DeMint with that same stick.
