McCain pulls away from Obama in Gallup's tracking poll
Edited on Fri May-02-08 07:58 PM by sinderello

http://www.gallup.com/poll/106966/Gallup-Daily-McCain-Moves-Point-Lead-Over-Obama.aspx

Meanwhile, Rasmussen has very similar results: McCain has gained 6 points since Monday:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows John McCain now leads Barack Obama 48% to 42%. On Monday, immediately before the press conference held by Obama’s former Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, the candidates were tied at 46%.

14. Most of his supporters here feel he is untouchable and will win 60% of the vote.

At BEST Obama can hope for a 50+1 squeaker... and that's looking impossible at this point too.

I know you only started posting today and you've been quite the busy beaver, but haven't you noticed that everyone's attacking Obama? Not just the Clintons and their increasingly annoying surrogates (Sid Blumenthal, is that you?), but also the GOP, wingnut war-loving "columnists" like Karl Rove (!!), Bill Kristol and Charles Krauthammer, wingnut media-types like Joe Scarborough, Bill Bennett and Pat Buchanan, and, of course, John McCain.

Lovely company you folks are keeping. Gawd, how I wish Hillary had been "fighting" for "us" the last eight years the way she's been fighting Obama for the nomination the last few months.

26. Almost All of it Bad For Us
Lots can and will happen

Nearly all of it bad for us, and the rest will be reported in a way to make it bad for us.

McCain is the one who is untouchable, unfortunately, covered as he is in the finest quality Teflon® which completely protects him from either Bush**'s record-breaking unpopularity, or his own misdeeds.

How do we get through that? There must be some way.

On My Switch from Clinton to Obama

Joseph J. Andrew

The hardest decisions in life are not between good and bad or right and wrong, but between two goods or two rights. That is the decision Democrats face today. We have an embarrassment of riches, but as much as we may love our candidates and revel in the political process that has brought Presidential politics to places that have not seen it in a generation,we cannot let our family affair hurt America by helping John McCain.

Here is my message, explained in this lengthy letter that I hope is perceived as a thoughtful analysis of how to save America from four more years of the misguided polices of the past: you can be for someone without being against someone else. You can unite behind a candidate and a vision for America without rejecting another candidate and their vision, because in real life, opposed to party politics, we Democrats are on the same side. The battle should not be amongst ourselves. Rather, we should focus our efforts on those who are truly on the opposite side: those who want to continue the failed policies of the last eight years, rather than bring real change to Washington. Let us come together right now behind an inspiring leader who not only has the audacity to challenge the old divisive politics, but the audacity to make us all hope for a better America.

Unite the Party

I believe that Bill Clinton will be remembered as one of our nation's great Presidents, and Senator Clinton as one of our nation's great public servants. But as much as I respect and admire them both, it is clear that a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process is a vote that assists John McCain.

I ask Hoosiers to come together and vote for Barack Obama to be our next President. In an accident of timing, Indiana has been given the opportunity to truly make a difference. Hoosiers should grab that power and do what in their heart they know is right. They should reject the old negative politics and vote for true change. Don't settle for the tried and true and the simplistic slogans, but listen to your heart and dare to be inspired. Only a cynic would be critical of Barack Obama inspiring millions. Only the uninformed could forget that the candidate that wins in November is always the candidate that inspires millions.

38. We're being blasted with those awesome DNC anti-McCain ads here in Ohio
I mean, I see more of those McCain ads than I saw of Clinton and Obama ads during the Ohio Primary.

The one where Bush hugs and kisses him over and over while his outrageous "straight talk" is highlighted is pretty killer. I'm lovin' it. :-)

24. Three short words for their strange new god:
Edited on Fri May-02-08 08:18 PM by smalll

Un.
E.
Lectable.

Obama is NOT a new phenomenon. He is much in the tradition of Dean '04, Bradley '00, (even Jerry Brown '92 in some ways): he is the latte liberal candidate. None of those three men could take the nomination, and thank God, because you can't win in November on latte liberalism. It just so happens, however, that Obama is also a black man. So he very well may be able to take the nomination with a latte-liberal/AA coalition. But you can't win in November with a latte-liberal/AA coalition either.

And it is an unusual coalition in many ways: while the LLs and the AAs are both generally to the left in Democratic politics, they are different kinds of left, with divergently different issues, rhetoric and style. And while an AA candidate can at times carry a portion of the LLs with him in primary votes (Jesse Jackson), LL candidates usually leave the AA electorate distinctly cold.

And the BIGGEST problem of it all is this: the average voter (and YES, most people in America are white, and most of them are not rich, so the working-class, lower-middle-class white vote is, for all intents and purposes, the "average" voter) -- that average voter "has issues" with African Americans (not necessarily out-and-out racism, but at least a black man is going to have to work extra hard to get their votes) -- AND he "has issues" with latte liberals!

It may not be pretty, but it is true: go with a black champion of the latte liberals, and you rip the heart out of the Democratic base -- the average person, the common man, the little guy -- and you doom yourself in November.

But these Obamatrons, their zeal and awe for their strange new god has become so strong that they are driven to rush him forward to a Gotterdammerung in the general election.
