Honestly I don't know how she keeps herself from laughing.

My favorite part:
Colbert: "The Japanese were your occupiers in WWII, is that ever akward?"
Bordallo: "Yes, I'm glad you asked that--"
Colbert: "I'm glad I asked that too. For a second, I didn't think I was going to. "
Bordallo: "Well--"
Colbert: "Moving on ..."

24. Latest report from Guam at Guam Pacific Daily News:
(btw I think Clinton is looking good here. She got American Samoa)

http://www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080503/NEWS01/80503006
1:42 p.m. -- Residents began lining up in large numbers this morning at 10 a.m. to cast their vote for the Guam Democratic Party's chairman and vice chairman -- who will act as superdelegates with a full vote in the ongoing Democratic presidential nomination.

Cynthia Estrada of Dedeo, though still making up her mind while waiting in line to cast her vote, said she was leaning toward Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

"She's had the experience," she said. "She's got her husband to help her."

Yona resident Tommy Shimizu said he was voting for Obama. He had been at the Yona Mayor's office all day, passing out information about the presidential hopeful.

"It's the fact that he grew up in Hawaii, and I think he can make change," he said. "I think it's time for that."

Shimizu added that today's opportunity to have a voice in the party nomination for presidential candidate was "a big step for Guam."

I called my sister there a little earlier in the evening to ask her about it. She said when there are local elections everybody is out like its a festival - everybody votes. I didn't press her on politics, but she mentioned it was a surprise how many Obama signs she has seen around...no predictions though.

http://www.mvariety.com/?module=displaystory&story_id=10817&format=html

Guam holds nine delegate votes, five of which are super delegate votes. Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo, national committeeman and national committeewoman, as well as the chair and vice chair of the Democratic Party of Guam make up the five super delegate votes.

The remaining four delegate votes will go to those who have pledged their support for either Clinton or Obama. Four men and four women will win the pledged delegate seats. Each winning delegate gets a half vote.

53. Counting Of Caucus Ballots Begins
9:11 p.m. Guam - A little more than an hour after the polls closed, the ballot counting for Guam's Democrat Caucus has begun.

According to Dolores Tusic, a precinct volunteer at the Agana Shopping Center, the election went relatively smoothly.

She noted, however, that many Democrats were upset because their names were not on the party's register.

Election Central is located in the Guam Legislature's Public Hearing

I'm jealous.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/05/03/steady-voter-turnout-in-guam-caucuses/

"The polls closed on Guam at 8 p.m. local time (6 a.m. ET). Hand tabulation of the ballots is expected to take approximately three hours. In the island’s 2006 gubernatorial election, 55,311 people were registered to vote. The Democratic candidate received nearly 19,000 votes, and although voter turnout today is steady, election officials say it is not expected to be unusually high."

12:00 a.m. Guam – The results of three precincts are in, but the ballot counting at election central is still behind at this hour. After Maina, Ordot and Inarajan reported, Senator Barack Obama is leading Senator Hillary Clinton by 26 percentage points.

But the manual counting this year seems to be taxing officials. In fact, Herbie Perez, chairperson of the Democrat’s nominating committee, has stopped overseeing the process to form another group with her at the helm. She told the Pacific News Center previously that she expected tabulations to be complete by 11:30 p.m.

PBY sea planes for Trans-Ocean Airlines, an inter island service to Yap, Koror, Saipan etc.

She LOVED it there and mentions it often as some of the best years or her life. This was back in the 1950's.

Without thinking too much about it, she had assumed all along Guam would be Obama country

Voting half-done; Obama still in lead
Pacific News Center Staff Reporter 04.MAY.08
1:45 a.m. Guam – With 11 out of 19 precincts reporting, Senator Barack Obama is leading Senator Hillary Clinton by 6 percentage points. The total preference count so far is Obama with 768 to Clinton’s 680.

Meanwhile, the race for Party Chair and Vice-Chair isn’t as close as the delegates’. With over half of the counting done the team of Pillar Lujan and Jaime Paulino is leading the three teams with 48 percent of the vote.

In an interview with KUAM-TV, Clinton, asked about giving Guam citizens the right to vote for president, said, "I am in favor of full voting rights for every American and that includes the people on Guam."

"It seems to me that it is long past time that we remedy this inequity," Clinton said. "It doesn't reflect American values; it is out of step with the move toward equality and full citizenship rights, and I will do everything I can to make sure the people of Guam's votes are counted. Guam may have more information/insights to offer than you might think given their small size!

My son in law while stationed in Anchorage last year was sent to Guam for military exercises for a 3 month deployment. But I have no idea how many are actually stationed there with their families. His AF unit (90th Fighter Squadron) flew in and flew out and families stayed behind in Anchorage for the deployment.

136. We used to have an AF training base locally. I knew folks who got sent to Guam.
This was MANY years ago when Chanute was still open. I worked with a few of the wives from Chanute and I knew a couple of them that ended up moving to Guam from here in Illinois. I think I remember them saying they were gonna be there for at least a couple of years. I always kind of envied them a tiny bit because it seemed so exotic and exciting. (Now, in my later years the idea of packing up the entire household and moving it across the planet would be overwhelming!)

Anyhow, I figured it would be kind of interesting to see how the folks actually serving in the military vote in this Primary.

My daughter and son in law now are stationed in Idaho. Up until last year they were in Alaska, then before that North Carolina and before that Pensacola, Fla. They both vote absentee in NJ, so how you'd track down who voted from where in the service I can't imagine.

160. I just want to point out that 2 of the SD's are chosen in this primary, and Obama looks to pick up
at least one SD there.
Lujan/Paulino is waaaayyy ahead.
from CNN:
"Also on the ballot Saturday was the race for chairman and vice chairman of the U.S. territory's Democratic party. The winners of that race will serve as superdelegates. According to the election official, the slate of Pilar Lujan and Jaime Paulino currently leads the slate of Joseph Artero Cameron and Arlen Bordallo. Lujan remains uncommitted in the race for president while running-mate Paulino has endorsed Obama. Both Cameron and Bordallo have endorsed Clinton. Incumbent chairman Tony Charfauros and running-mate Mary Ann Cabrera are currently in third place. Neither has endorsed a presidential candidate."

165. 2/3 votes counted: Obama ahead by 7%
With more than two-thirds of the votes for the 2008 Guam Democrat Caucus now in the books, presidential candidate hopeful Barack Obama has claimed a major victory after winning Mangilao, one of the island's larger and more populous villages. That village reported that it has 262 new registered Democrats. Voting for several other big villages is still pending, including Talofofo, Yigo, Yona, and, perhaps most significant, Dededo.

But things are looking up for the Hillary Clinton camp, as the New York legislator won Tamuning by a single vote, 193-192. Overall Obama has 1,393 votes (53%) to Clinton's 1,222 (47%).

Pilar Lujan still continues a strong move for the chairmanship of the Democrat Party of Guam, with 44% of the vote. Joseph Cameron is a distant second.

170. Guam hands stunning rebuke to Clinton campaign!
This was her election to lose and she lost it! Her support is eroding amongst her most ardent supporters. Guamanians have taken the lead in shutting this thing down. It seems as if the SDs are also taking their cue from Guam's stunning victory for Obama and are now fully supporting this man's campaign.

Who would have thought Guam would be the deciding factor in all this? I guess that's for the historians to figure out.

Showdown in Dededo

Posted: 04:00 PM ET

(CNN) – The outcome of the Guam Democratic presidential caucuses will come down to the votes of one village, Dededo, the territory's largest voting precinct.

With 20 of 21 precincts reporting, Barack Obama leads the contest with 1,951 votes (52.7 percent), compared to 1,748 votes (47.2 percent) for Hillary Clinton.

Roughly 1,400 votes remain to be tallied in Dededo, about 27 percent of all votes cast in this party-run primary.

At stake are Guam's four pledged delegate votes, which will be allocated to the candidates in proportion to the percentage of the vote won once all the votes are counted.

219. HILLARY TIES OBAMA IN ELECTORAL UPSET!!!
She captured as many delegates as Obama which, in Obama-bot logic, means that she tied.

Go Hillary!!!!
