3. I was at dinner with a table full of Indiana transportation engineers.
Practioners, consultants, academics.

One of them asked to the table, "So who has it right on the gas tax holiday?"

These guys don't talk politics, but they do talk shop; they looked around at each other for a few seconds, and one said: "Obama is the only one who was talking about the impact of removing the tax and what those taxes pay for. He is the only one who was reading up on the subject. He had it right."

"And there's been all this chatter on radio and television about how it's only state tax dollars and income from Major Moves* that pay for roads here. No way. For $30 you'd be taking away money that is right now designated to fix our rotting infrastructure."

"Didn't Governor O'Bannon do the same thing in 2000?"

"Yep, and the impact was the same. Learn from mistakes."

===================

*Major Moves is a program by our governor, Mitch Daniels, in which the Indiana Toll Road has been leased to a private firm for a huge sum that was poured directly into the Indiana roads.
